Experience so far with TDV8

Finally took delivery of my shiny new TDV8 on Christmas Eve and have now done a mostly gentle 1000 miles and have to say that overall I am pleased with the vehicle. The engine is incredible and overall it has returned nearly 28mpg. Previous vehicle was a ML320 which returned 26.4mpg over 3 years so I cant fail to be pleased with that so far. Thumbs Up

However....tried setting the park heater via the screen last week, seemed to do something the next morning for a few minutes then nothing (heater knob led flashing for a while), car still stone cold after 20 mins. Remote fob doesnt do anything at all. Oh dear. Spoke to supplying dealer who was very helpful but 150 miles away. Next call to local dealer who was also very helpful and booked us in for Friday morning for diagnostics on the issue. Very impressed with the efficiency and courtesy shown so far and look forward to getting the problem fixed.

I have driven german cars for the last 10 years and all have gone wrong at some stage, so I remain optimistic that this is a teething problem that we can resolve and forget about. Let's see how I feel on Friday afternoon.

Interesting, came out this morning to my 2012 TDV8 at 5:00 am and -5 degrees to find the FBH had not come on. Checked the timer and the clock to find nothing wrong. Tried it last week and only got a few minutes before it stopped (cold in car and little patch of de-iced screen at the bottom). Be interested to hear what your dealer finds.

Is yours a Vogue? I did not get a remote fob with mine so might make a fuss if you did!

Welcome to the world of an RRR with reasonable fuel economy.

have you both had *all* your recalls done as there is a software update and a new battery to go in?

IIRC the update reduces the allowed period down to 17mins from 30 and the battery gets replaced with an AGM type.

Mine was at the steelers yesterday to sort out this among other problems. I was not given a fob originaly but shoul have as they all should come with one. Got the fob yesterday and it worked perfectly today. If you set it in car there is a problem with the infotainment screen and battery level, aparently LR are aware of the problem and finding a fix.
OP these cars have more than their share of teathing problems, I think yesturday was the 6th visit in as many months, at the end of the day the car is head and shoulders above anything else so live with the problems. letters not necessarily in the right order

Hi

Car is 3 weeks old, Vogue TDV8 4.4. It did indeed come with a remote for the heater which was at the bottom of the glove box. I hadnt seen it but the dealer told me where to find it when I told them I didnt have one.

Should have been delivered totally up to date but we'll find out on Friday

@Nick Ground

This has just happened to mine (04 v8 petrol). I have exactly the same symptoms as you - fan starts up fine but no heat. It means the fuel is not igniting or stg is shutting it down before it can ignite. search on here for FBH and there are lots of really good diagrams adn posts, so when you go to the stealer you will have better knowledge than them.

Mine has been to stealers who "found" the missing FBH fob. Tested the FBH and tell me it is working.... Evidently not and this is now ongoing. The issue has been escalated to LR along with similar problems on my colleagues D4.

Mine works - only issue is if you run it for the full 30 minutes you get a toasty car, but not enough ooomph left in the battery to have one that can start Twisted Evil Land Rover Addict

My car has the 17 minute limitation. You can start it but it's still cold.

My 2012 has it and remote but never used it and probably never will as I think it's a waste if time IMO. If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

It must be something really badly designed with the newer RR's that it doesn't work right.

My TD6 can run for the full cycle, i can come out a good few minutes after it finishes, sometimes upto 25mins after, and still start the car without issue and then whack on the front and rear demisters.

Seat heaters were only used a few times during this and mostly for my seat(only one in the car) and only once caused an issue as i'd listened to the radio a lot the day before whilst cleaning her and then did a short 60 second move of the car onto the front parking spot for her instead of the drive Smile

And i still have a 90ah rated battery as well Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My 2012 model year is OK. It's certainly not toasty hot inside, more like luke warm, but it is useful on really cold days & certainly aids starting.

I've had no battery problems and left it for 2 weeks before now, still using the remote heater & fires up no problems.
If you don't use it on really cold days, then you just get about a 3 - 4 second delay on starting whilst the heater plugs have to warm up, but with using it there's no delay on starting. In my mind that must be better for the engine - If it's a little warmer on start up, presumably less wear.
I also find if you don;t use it, it takes about 1 - 2 miles of driving to get up to full engine heat. When using it, it's up to full heat after about 1/2 mile. Whether the fuel used to pre-heat would cancel out any fuel saving is up for debate though Whistle

I'm positve they could increase the 17 minutes back to 30 no problem, but they seem to have been really cautious since having all the problems with the 2011 my's flat battery. Rolling Eyes
