Rusty alloys

Hello there

I've got rusty alloys and wondered if anyone else has had the same problem?

I have a 2011 MY RR Vogue and got it in September but it had already been built and was relocated from another dealer, so it was originally made in June 2011. There wasn't any rust on the alloys when I got it, but it has gradually appeared and now the rust is all around the inside of the wheel (the inside round bit between the spokes). They are small rusty spots but are increasing by the day and are on all 4 wheels. I will take it back to the dealer and I presume they will be covered for replacement by warranty but wanted to know if this is unique to me or is it a bad batch?

Thanks for your help, Roy 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

i dont think alloy rusts....ferrous metals do but not alloy wheels..are you positive it is rust and not some dis-colouration... ... - .- -.

Sounds like metal filaments from brake pads that have caked on and gone rusty . I would try some fallout remover as sold on specialist detailing websites followed by a good rub using a clay bar and see if it makes a difference. if this works I would consider a wheel sealant to minimise chance of it happening again. Hope that helps. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

One option is that it could be small embedded ferrous particles from your brakes stuck in the paint which are rusting.

You could try some iron x spray which dissolves these particles looks pretty cool too when it turn them purple.

Sounds like the brakes have been either stuck on or used pretty heavily which can overheat and fragment the friction coal which then sticks to your alloys. You'll want to get these dissolved otherwise it can compromise the coating integrity of the alloys.

As Stan said alloys don't rust- closest you'd see is the white corrosion so orange is definitely a foreign body.
