At the moment Stratstones of Pickering are 'on the job' and I informed them that I don't need a diff - just the coupling shaft which is about £120 and a new propshaft @£75. They have informed me they are fully aware of this new method of repair and are currently sorting price and location of parts for me |

Anyone got the contact details of Land Rover MD ? Would be nice to let him learn how his company on one hand treats customers and on the other hand there is the 'good' side |

If they replace the pinion drive flange without opening up the final drive to replace the collapsible bearing spacer there’s no guarantee they’ll get the preload right on the pinion bearings. If these taper roller bearings fail as a result, the crown wheel and pinion could potentially lock solid (as opposed to the propshaft spline failure which ‘just’ fails to neutral). For this reason, before the new joint design became available, Land Rover replaced the whole final drive at the same time as the propshaft, even though there was nothing wrong with it. They just didn’t want to take the risk of the front wheels locking through bearing failures due to incorrect preload.

Yes - thats correct Phil. They are removing the diff and opening it up to do it all correctly before reassembly with new seals etc. Still the wrong side of four figures though as they said I've only missed the recall by 3 weeks - despite them having my vehicle details and DVLA also having them for recalls etc ! |

I hate these companies, who think they can sell your a 50k plus car and say its ok for important things such as injectors and propshafts to break aparts after 5-10 years. these should not fall apart full stop, ok someone maybe unlucky here and there but for it to happen to a majority of RR's is a joke.

Thanks for the details - I am going to compose a strongly worded letter this weekend and see what they say ! After everything that is happening in the economy surely they must realise they have to look after customers as its us who put the company in such a strong position it is in today ! I will of course await their reply and keep everyone informed - afterall I have nothing to loose |

My strong suggestion is that you write a polite letter to Dr. Speth rather than a ranting one.
