vehicle prep / checks for winter

preparing for the winter months all suggestions welcome

-check battery condition / voltage
-use silicone spray on all the door rubbers and shuts stops the rubbers freezing to the door
-check antifreeze level
-top up screen wash with the blue concentrate stuff stops the washer bottle freezing
-check tyres tread depth and pressures min 1.5 -2.0 mm
-wiper blades check for splits and operation do they sweep the whole screen and clear it
-check all levels and filling the fuel tank up removes moisture on tank internal walls that could freeze if cold enough
-solar powerd trickle charger is a nice luxury in winter just to keep the batery at its best when youve got the 4x heated seats on , heated steeing wheel on , heater on full and then when your out of the car the cab heater it all kills the batery

please add anything that ive missed onto no6 Range Rover

I change over to a better quality thinner oil for the worst 6 months of the year, I find this stops the BMW rattle on cold startup if I change to 0W30 from 5W40. But then I'm anal about oil. Embarassed

Oh and Winter Wiper blades:

P/N: DKC500060PMD Think they cost aprox £40.00 Shocked

Summer Wiper blades:

P/N: DKC000040

Regarding the solar battery trickle charger, make sure you plug it inot the socket in the boot as its the only one with power when ignition is off.

I taped mine to the inside of the rear side window. Discovery 4 HSE

Thicker rubber I think, helps shift snow and is more resistant to wear from ice.

PS, did you know that LR recommend using "Screen Cleaning Paste" Every time you change the wipers to avoid premature wear and also a grease build up

Perhaps we could have a review of them in the review section we don't have Whistle

The legal minimum in the UK is 1.6mm in a continuous band throughout the central three-quarters of the tread width, throughout the whole of the circumference of the tyre. Be aware that RoSPA recommends tyres to be replaced when they get to 3mm as stopping distances in the wet can increase by over 35% at the legal limit of 1.6mm. Not sure you should be reading this bit.

Got mine from Powerbee - Sunsei 170 - excellent quality made in the US :-

you need to be wary of output - the smaller units around 1.5 to 2.5 watts will only maintain and top up a fully charged battery. They will charge a discharged battery - but it takes weeks. If you want to charge a battery in a matter of days you need a huge solar pannel...

mine wasn't the cheapest but you do get a lot of accesories, its very well made and it has a 10 year warranty
