Hi Guys,

I have an l322 4.4 2004 RR. Every now and then i get a hdc inactive warning, but only for a a couple of seconds maximum and its always if its the first time ive started it in a couple of days never the second or third time that day.

Is this something to look into to or is it a simple the car throwing a wee strop when it wants.....

also what the hell does hdc stand for, i have heard people having it linked to ABS and air suspension etc but i dont have any of that (touch wood)

Low battery because it's been stood a couple of days is the No.1 reason for it appearing then clearing itself. I would start being prepared to buy a Battery as the winter will soon show if it's getting past it's best.

If it was a fault it would not clear itself and would remain displayed.

Also try the HDC button to see that it operates without warnings.

HDC is Hill Descent Control and uses the brakes to control descent keeping the RR straight and under control and is linked to the ABS system.

it 100% doesnt stay on and the turns over quite swiftly.

I was hoping you wouldnt metion having to buy a new battery lol. funnily enough the hdc engaged almost instantly, well the light does with no warnings on dash. I havent actually used it yet.

the inactive warning light never used to come on it was only when i flicked the hdc switch on and off once a couple weeks ago that it crops up now first start up. need to give this hdc a proper test.... need to find a steep hill

I get this too, and from this forum assumed it was battery.

Anyone recommend a really good, strong battery? __________________

any thoughts on this battery. how important is the Ah capacity. the bosch ones available on europarts or either 90 or 95 im sure.

I bought the genuine LR battery for my TDV8 and it cost me 141 quid

I get the HDC Inactive mesage appear usually in the mornings but then clears straight away, i have read on the forums that this is casued by low battey. I changed my battery a couple of months ago ( at main dealers) and was ok but have noticed the message coming back again. I had the dealer check the voltage of the battery and they said everything was ok. Howevevr i had to call the AA out to start the car before new battery was fitted and he said that there was something definatly drawing power.

The only thing i have not checked is if the Final stage resistor has been upgraded as this (again from the forums) was the casue of a lot of flat batteries. Mine is TD6 on a 05 plate (with touchscreen)> Anyone have any ideas as i dont want to be buying batteries every 12 months!!

check the obd port flap is closed..the battery needs to be a 110amp 920 cca type like the varta/bosch 020..did they turn the steering wheel fully left lock and then fully right lock. this sets the steering parameters ..

The battery was supplied and fitted by Strastones in cardiff, i would assume that they did what was required?? ................... but then again perhaps not, the times i have taken back tools found under the bonnet, or the time they chnaged the fuel pump and left a pipe of, i wondered why people where flashing me as the car was smoking, by the time i got home, lost a lot off fuel, all over the engine and burning, or the time they chnaged the fuel pump again and reversed some wires so when in the fast lane of motorway car cuts out, tank said half full but was really on empty!!!!!!! I realy should have let my solicitor sort that out as i had the children in the car!!!!!!

Definitely an indication of "Low Voltage" at start-up. Only fix is a new battery.

Like i say Land Rover Dealer fitted a new battery this year so if it has low voltage already then something is definatly drawing power but i dont know where to start. Dealer says that all is ok, AA say that something is using power, you would expect the dealer to know most of the issues???
