Anybody want to speculate how after the suspension was extended while the front disks and pads were changed it felt like it had also been fitted with new shocks ( reduced 'crashiness' over road imperfections at low speed) )when I drove back from the garage. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Unless the rubber bushes moved into a "better” position…. I know they shouldn’t but….

I know on my TD6 if the rear started to creak, I’d drive up a slope at an angle and articulate the suspension…. Creak gone away…..

You’ll have stretched the shock to its full length and moved the oil around inside it when it was jacked.

The manual for the shock absorbers on some cars tell you to fully extend and compress them half a dozen times before fitting so the oil is where it should be.

Probably the same thing that’s happened to yours.

I speculated on some redistribution of the oil or release of trapped air in the shocks? Maybe I'll put it extended height mode if it starts to get crashy again. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Did you notice the change in both front and rear or perhaps just the rear?

Noting that when the shocks are extended or compressed while the bypass valves are closed causes the oil to have to pass through the piston valves, I wonder if fully extending gives those a good flush.

I suspect the change has to do with the oil now being well-mixed and possibly air bubbles forced out but it got me thinking about the function of those rear reservoirs, which might be pressure smoothing rather than holding more oil as the contents don't have any way to significantly mix with the other oil to keep the oil cooler. Furthermore a larger diameter would accomodate more oil and not run the risk of having the canisters knocked-off. My combine harvester has a pressure accumulator in the hydraulics to the rams that support the front, smoothing the short-term high pressure burst that occurs whenever the front is raised or lowered. The accumulator has a compressed gas chamber and I wondered if the rear canisters have a similar function, possibly required to soften the rear to an acceptable level when lightly loaded.

My shocks are original and have 163k miles on them. They work with regards to controlling suspension oscillation but likley past their best with regards to other qualities. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Mine does the same thing - even going to off road height and back down again sometimes gives a temporary ride improvement. It is just that though - temporary.
