Hi everyone I’m new to this forum I have just purchased a 2010 ffrr vogue tdv8 4.4
I noticed on the drive home 250 miles a jerky hesitation on acceleration for argument’s sake if you wanted to do 40mph or any other speed for that matter it would accelerate up to 40mph fine but once you backed off the throttle to maintain the speed it would hesitate as though it was thinking the rev counter drops a 100rpms for a second as though the power was cut then it picks up again jerks 3 or 4 times by which time I apply a bit more throttle and it’s off again no error codes come up I have icarsoft pro not dedicated to landrover that I am a bit of a novice with I did get a couple of times water in fuel fault I’ve changed the filter and had a few tanks of fuel through it the water in fuel fault seems to have gone now.
It seems to drive fine from cold for a mile or two then starts it’s antics it goes from first to second ok but seems to hesitate before it goes into third then the rest of the gears fine.
Any help on what it is where to look or how to diagnose it would be greatly appreciated.
I am well impressed with this forum the amount of information and knowledge on it is amazing
I’m hoping with all this information it’s going to make my tdv8 ownership an enjoyable one

How many miles are on it? Has it had the fluid replaced before? I'm having a very similar problem with the same ZF8 in my 335d at 70k and the general consensus to speaking with a few people who have had the same issue is that a fluid change should fix it as they're pretty tough boxes but do exhibit funny things like this when the fluid's cooked. Mine started at about 60k but with how I drive it I imagine the fluid is pretty black and I'm hardly surprised that it's crying enough. I'd get it megaflushed, or even put a new sump and fluid in there. Places like Autodoc sell genuine kits for c£250 at the moment.

Hi thanks for the reply mine has done 152000 miles and I have a receipt for £275 for gearbox oil and filter change about two months ago but this was done by previous owner

I think the correct fluid would cost more than that. 11 litres I believe.

Suggest getting a proper gearbox service at a ZF approved automatic gearbox garage that uses the official ZF fluid. If it's a gearbox fault they will also be able to diagnose it for you. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Also, ‘gearbox oil & filter change’ only equates to approx 30-40% of the oil contained in the gearbox. Quite an emotive subject, but I would suggest a ‘mega flush’ of the gearbox where that flushes out 90-95% of the oil. Some like them some don’t. I had mine done the first year I bought her then had a filter change the following year, belt & braces in my mind. Bodsy on here is re known for his workmanship & will come to you I believe, even ‘op norf’.😜
While you’re at it, try cleaning the MAP & MAF sensor, they do tend to get full of crud very easily & simple to clean. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Ah right thanks for all the replies I did not consider the gearbox I thought it was more of a power issue
When I’ve looked at the receipt again that is for the oil and filter kit da3383 the labour was extra.
I will have to see if I can find a zf specialist locally or get in touch with bodsy was it? Cheers
