Over 100,000 miles and avoiding restricted performance

Having owned my car from new and never skimping on its upkeep, I find myself at over 100,000 miles now and seeing ‘restricted performance’ lights come on. My car still looks like new and has never let me down. I am surprised though that all the crazy air houses that split and other sensors that fail don’t just get replaced through general maintenance after a specific number of miles/calendar days, rather than leaving them to break and cause problems or is it a ploy to get you to update?! Big Cry

Anyone else trying to work out what to change on the pipes and sensors to avoid the inevitable electrical faults? A diesel engine should otherwise go for many miles.

On the L460, i just don’t like the back end and think the L405 looks better so i want to keep my car for a lot longer which means the inevitable faults to deal with, so any tips on preventative avoidance would be great! 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

Hi Jase,

I have the exact same MY2017 TDV6, and actually think it’s a sweet spot in the FFRR evolution, and the Vogue usually has the advantage of a solid 1-piece bonded glass roof without the potential future roof drains sudden-death nightmare.
Mine has been pretty much trouble-free during my 16 months of ownership. At least you 100% know the providence of your car, which is a great start. If not already in posession, get yourself an iiD BT or an iCarSoft LRV3 tool (both are excellent) then you can monitor and diagnose what is going on with the vehicle, -essentially it will self-diagnose to a great extent. Some of the easier stuff you will be able to tackle yourself perhaps with a little help from your mates here, but if you do get out of your depth at least you can go to your local indy and tell them what the issue is without having to shell out £150 for a diagnostic check first, so it will save you 100’s.
The L460 (I think you gave up on?) is literally plagued with issues, unfortunately it just happened to arrive in the World at the wrong time, and is now “half the car at twice the price” compared to a well cared for L405. It’s expected that all rubber and even plastic components will degrade with time, so gradual planned replacement of hoses and some vulnerable plastic parts will be prudent, but having said that, your not spending a Kings’ Ransom in finance payments every month either? Keep it! As many of us here are finding out with our hairstyles in later life, “less is more”. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your wise words and excellent advice Gremlin! I’m going to get myself a Gap IiD BT reader. I also agree the 2017 MY is a good setup and I do like the original camera lens like lights in the first iteration of the L405. Also agree that less is more!! 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

By the way, which model of the iiD BT Gap tool are people using? Quite a lot of types on their website for the basic user to consider! 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

I read in one of the posts that from 2017 onwards the GAP iiD tool can’t access a number of functions due to proprietary issues, is that correct? Would be great to be able to diagnose restricted performance issues and reset etc 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

I would research both tools thoroughly before deciding?
The Gap tool is undeniably the best, but the other one has 90% of the functionality at half the price, also the GAP tool is VIN-locked, but the iCarSoft LR V3 can be used on any JLR vehicle.
No point in paying for functionality you may not use, either way. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
