TD6 Change of Fuel Pumps and Filter - P2542-02

I had the "pleasure" of my old TD6 going very quite and stopping dead whilst on the way to work about 1 mile from home. Eventually after a couple of hours trying to restart it I managed to get it going again and back home.

The cause was found to be worn brushes on the in tank fuel pump which I guess just reached end of life at 146,000 miles.

I changed that, and the fuel pump under the body, and for good measure fitted a new filter. In removing the sensor from the old filter it broke. The new sensor I fitted was a "cheap" one of Chinese origin.

Everything is now back together and all working but with one fault code that will not clear.

P2542-02 Low side fuel pressure sensor malfunction (fuel filter) - short circuit to battery positive - General failure information - general signal failure.

Today I fitted another cheap sensor from a different supplier but still the same fault.

Wiring and connectors all look good in the vicinity of the filter.

I cannot find much about the P2542- 02 code on-line but I am assuming it is genuinely referring to the sensor on the fuel filter of the TD6. Or could it be something else?

What is the implication of this failure? Does it matter?
