OEM one's have a bolt head, some of the aftermarket ones have a Torx head...

That explains it. My replacement is an oem one with a nut. Bet I will have to do the other side soon enough.

Want to remove what I feel is an unnecessary ‘TDV8’ badge off the back of the car. Guessing it’s a hairdryer and a piece of string job followed by rubbing the glue off with my thumb before cleaning?

Put a thin piece of kitchen towel soaked in white spirit for half an hour on the glued area and it will come off quite easily. I do it on old wheel weight adhesive. Just make sure the towel is really wet.

Thanks. I would have thought white spirit would damage the paint? Or would that happen only if left too long? (30 mins seems like a long time!)

I have always found cup of hot water poured over badge is enough to release sticky and then pry off with plastic tool so as to not damage paint, 2min job and no scratching. That's how I do it anyway for what its worth.

If you leave it for 30 mins it will come off easily. I use white spirit for tar spots with no ill effect. Polish it afterwards though.

Finally got round to fitting the new oem side trims.

As the edges of the glass didn’t look great (slight delaminating) they serve a purpose in tidying up the look of the rear window if nothing else. And as an oem man I like the fact that it is back to how it came out the factory. Mine were easy to take off and easy to refit.

The fact my car is black makes them blend in but can imagine on a sliver car for example they would look more noticeable. Not the best pictures but the difference in person is a bit more marked.

Great news - I've had a pair of trims sitting in the garage for a couple of months now, when I get time to remove the current ones and replace them! Hopefully mine come off as easily...

Basic tip - start attaching it from the bottom so you don’t end up with it coming up a little short to the tailgate. I had to attach the first one twice because I didn’t think it through at the outset.

I put a bit of token wax-oil inside the strips before putting them on, no idea if that would help stop them from rusting and distorting as quickly but I needed a little lube anyway so thought why not.

I just tapped it tight to the glass with the bottom of my hand. Hopefully yours will be as easy to change as mine were. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

We have the same problem. Looking for a video for help with removing the old trim and fitting the new ones . Can anyone help . Any advice would be great thank you

It was a while ago now but they just pulled off for me.

Clean up any residue and then fit the new ones starting from the bottom edge (so it lines up right).

You can try using a trim removal tool if needed but I did it all by hand. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.
