Rear air bags

Any thoughts out there on whether it is worthwhile as preventative maintenance to change out old rear air bags (currently working fine) after 12 years and 110k miles?

Plenty of comments on the forum about the front air springs generally becoming less reliable after 10-12 years, but not so much about the rear….

Where do you stop with preventative maintenance on a car with 110k miles that's 12 years old? You could replace everything for peace of mind or take the don't fix what isn't broken approach. I treat mine as a 'running repair' otherwise it would be a black hole of money. Rears are easy enough to replace so why not just save the money for when something does need fixing. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I occasionally raise the suspension to full height and brush out all the dirt and give it a good visual.

My rear air bags are still original after 275 000 km and 16 years of use.
I will replace them when they start to crack or get too old, but for now they look in very good condition Thumbs Up RR HSE 4.4 2006 LPG

I was ;looking at mine as I do lots of preventative maintenance and they look ok at nearly 16 years and 230k+ miles and I know they are originals as last 12 years I have owned it - so yours probably have a while to go Thumbs Up

One of my fronts burst so I changed the front shocks and bags. Just after I’d ordered them I decided I might as well replace the original rear shockers at the same time and then decided to do the bags as well.

The ones I removed were the originals to the car (2007 car changed in 2021) and looked to be in good shape, nothing like the wear on the fronts.

Changing both the front bags and shocks as units, and doing both rear bags and both rear bags cost around £1000 but it certainly improved the ride on the car. That’ll be the shocks rather then the bags though.
