2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Ipanema Sand
Brake feel

Hi guys new to the Land Rover brand just brought a 2011 4.4 vogue. To me the brakes feel very wooden is there a good disc pad combo to improve the feel of the brakes looks like it’s had front discs and pads but looking at all the different manufacturers it’s mind boggling ,So anybody got any recommendations thanks Clive 👍

They have 6 pot Brembos fitted so it should stop well.

That said, it is the best part of 3 tons and those brakes are a pain to bleed.

You should not have to move the pedal much before the brakes start to come on. Pedal should be fairly firm without the engine running. If not, maybe there is air in the system….

Without the engine running, press the pedal repeatedly until there's almost no movement, hold the pedal down and start the engine. Does the pedal move down (with normal foot pressure) almost immediately and sink to >50% of the total travel distance?
If not, then you may have a vacuum or brake booster issue.

Will check just checked no engine running pumped pedal until full pedestrian started motor pedal goes down to about half way down 👍
I think they may have fitted budget pads 😬😬

It could be the surface of the discs is quite worn / uneven (or the edges heavily lipped) and not the full area of the pads is touching the surface of the brake disc. Typically, the inner working face is worse than the outer.
The brake booster sounds fine from what you report.

I find them very progressive - plenty of stopping power if you press hard and gentle speed control if treated gently. Just like the accelerator pedal but in reverse. Budget vs expensive pads should have the same friction coefficient as this is a legal requirement. Budget pads may wear differently, create more dust, make more noise or fade under hard prolonged braking but shouldn't really have much difference in overall feel. A change of brake fluid and a full bleed is worthwhile but you may have fun with the bleed screws in the front callipers as they are alloy and suffer from galvanic corrosion. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Bosch discs. Brembo pads. Is the combo i put on recently.

Plenty of feel in my front brake, and very progressive with a fair amount of travel.
Might even describe my pedal as soft but not spongy. Pumping my brakes does not firm them up.
Radar control with forward alert will pre pump the brakes so you get immediate pressure.

Rock hard pedal with no feel is not how these brakes should feel.

It might be worth replacing all the discs and pads I always do with a new to me car and brake fluid and all other fluids you just dont know what has been done regardless of the history Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Replacing disks and pads all round is quite an expensive exercise esp if there may be nothing actual wrong …… 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
