Decided I needed to get out there despite the rain.

As a temporary fix, put some polythene sheet over the ball then press into the socket with a decent pair of pliers, you'll need to replace the linkage assembly soon though. |

Happened to me this summer while on holiday and managed to bodge it but it's secure so won't come off but loose and the wiper hits the A pillar so just ordered this kit;

This happened to my L322 a couple of years ago. The ball and socket wears and eventually pops out. The indy gave me a retaining clip that holds both together.

Added some polythene and the ball clicked into the socket with a satisfying thunk but I suspect it won't last long. Ordered some of those clips (thanks Stuart) to see if they will work
