Although the car behaved differently enough to convince me it wasn't a leak in one of the four intake rubbers, it did eventually turn out to be a leak in one of the four intake rubbers.
The inconsistent behaviour, etc. convinced me it must have been something more serious but I can only put it down to the awful software that ahendles the faults and reports a multitude of ever changing error numbers, offers zero acceleration or full acceleration, etc.
Easier thing is to whip the four rubbers off and check them.
