Oil Dilution percentage

A quick question as I have read all info I can find but can't find an answer to the question below, any information would be appreciated .
Would the fuel dilution percentage be reset to 0 if the service counter was reset without the oil actually being changed or would the percentage keep going up until the oil was actually changed.

Sorry I can’t answer your question because I always rest service indicator as part of my oil and filter service, but I have started logging the rate at which dilution raises from Zero.
Unfortunately Covid lockdown has reduced my usage so it will take longer, but in 1000 miles it has risen fairly gradually from 0 to 0.48, ,so because the limit is 7 , my regular 6 monthly changes will give me peace of mind.

Thanks for both answers, to explain the reason for my question is that about 2 months ago I got the service due message because its been 365 days since the car was serviced even though its only done about 6000 miles since the last service and all quite long journeys over 100 miles (I had not had any messages to say oil service due previously ), I had already seen a video that showed how to reset the service message so thought I would try it and it worked so message went away, recently i have read a few bits on hear about oil dilution and having treated myself to a Gap at Christmas thought today I would get the reading which has come up as oil quality fuel dilution factor 0.488 and distance since diesel partial filter regeneration 527km so was wondering if it was a true dilution reading or I have reset it in which case I will do an oil change to be safe. Very Happy

TBH I had the same quandary as you with low mileage this year, I decided to change the oil anyway as 12 Months or the stated mileage has always worked for me, a bit different now with DPF’s but the 12 Month marker should be adhered to IMO. Thumbs Up

IIRC yes it will reset it to zero when you click service reset. I had a high reading of 12 oil/fuel dliution when I bought the. car and did an instant oil change and reset using my IID tool.

Don't worry if it gets a high reading again it will let you know!!

My service required l warning flashed up yesterday.
It is 12 months since I last changed the oil and filter, but I have only done c800 miles due to lockdowns etc.
The oil dilution reading on my iid was 0.806.

I will be changing the oil and filter in the next couple of weeks as I always do a full service as part of my MOT preparation checks.
So I decided to reset the service indicator to get some definite readings.
The oil contamination now reads zero , even though I know it’s not been changed.
I intend to run it for a couple of weeks and keep checking it to see if it returns to 0.806 before I change it.

Probably an incredibly stupid question but ...

Using a GAP IID on my L405, can I see when the car was last serviced and at what mileage?

I've used the CCF functions of the tool before, but "playing" with the live values section makes me a tad nervous Laughing What do I put here then?

dunno about that but if it was serviced at a dealer with access to the JLR online service history then you can see on that site,

GAC23,
Yes, most of the service history is available in live values if you look at the full list for the engine….
Miles since last service reset etc etc.

Thank you @Stan and @Baltic Blue.

I'll have a careful dabble then. What do I put here then?
