got my Bloomin 2002 l322 4.4. been running ok then the other day the key turns ignition lights come on turn it and does not crank the engine. checked and the gear selector light wsa not lighting up so went for the tcm module, found a seconhand one on e bay and ordered a new fan in case that was what cooked it. disconnected the battery fitted new module. gear selector light came on and car started.result !!! no!!!!! turned it off went to start it again no gear selector light and back to bloomin square one. disconnected the battery to see if it was re-boot issue but no joy, any suggestion what to check and try please?

We have checkesd the battery and the RAC man checked it a couple of times we he looked at it so don't believe it is that, we have had it off and on since fitting the ne module as well, and doble checked it.

I had this on my M62 4.4. I eventually wired a push start switch between the ignition switch to the starter motor. I still needed the key switched to position 2 but it started. I think there may be an issue with the wiring on some cars? This might help?

Another possible could be the gear selector inhibitor switch telling the ecu the car is in gear rather than park or neutral thereby preventing the starter motor operating. see thread here https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic15665...r+selector

@NobbyC: yes, good point but I changed my XYZ switch and it made no difference. The car did think it was stuck in 3rd but soon cleared when the ignition switch button was installed.

Agree with potential inhibitor switch. I had that on a P38 years ago. You could try dropping it out of park and into neutral before cranking. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

I've had this issue several times. Mostly its low voltage or a battery on its last legs.
Last week I had this after some fiddling around with the rovacom and searching for reasons of my suspension faults. Had some faults on the gearbox too and wasn't able to reset them.
Charged the battery, but nothing changed. So I disconnected the battery and let it sit over night. The next morning with a fully charged battery reconnected all was good again.
Except my suspension problems, but that's another story...

I had exactly the same symptoms not that long ago, removed the xyz switch, cleaned out the inside and bent the wire pins so they were making better contact then put it all back together and haven't had a single problem with starting since.

You can replace the ignition switch not do hard I did that on mine but it was the starter motor in the end.

You can also very easily strip the ignition switch down and clean the main contacts if they are burnt, an hours work start to finish and will illuminate that as a possible cause.
