South Africa 2009 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Stornoway Grey

LOL - we aren't arguing Smile

Found this snippet tho - "When it came to registering the prototype Range Rovers, they were badged as Velars to keep the press away, but also registered as Velars on the V5. When the tax was renewed on the cars, they were all changed to Rover Range Rovers on the V5.)"

..and this ... "In 1967, the first Range Rover prototype was built, with the classic Range Rover shape clearly discernible but for a different front grille and headlight configuration. The design of the Range Rover was finalised in 1969. Twenty-six Velar engineering development vehicles were built between 1969 and 1970 and were road registered with the number plates YVB 151H through to YVB 177H" Land Rover Addict

Black? I do declare that Black was never a factory colour for early 2 doors? It was blue, red or poo brown. I had a factory black 1979 so not sure when it was an option.

That one is super early as has a handmade roof - with body coloured pillars

Sorry for confusion but mine was a 4 door and a much later Classic I think mine was a 1984 but not certain now.

A bit of extra info.

Quote:
VELAR is traditionally thought to stand for Vee Eight Land Rover, or V8 Engine in Land Rover. However, the name had already been used on a prototype Rover sports car, of which only one was made and is now at Gaydon. The name is derived from the Spanish Velar meaning to look after, to watch over, or the Italian Velare meaning to veil or to cover. The name was created by Mike Dunn, an engineer at Alvis and was created out of the letters in ALVIS and ROVER. So the VELAR motor company was used by Geof Miller (the Range Rover's Development Engineer) as a decoy name for registering pre-production Range Rovers. As such the company, which was registered in London, is credited with making one sports car and forty or so station wagons.

If that's right VELAR was already an established name before the Range Rover was created.

For what it's worth I thought all the early pre-production Range Rovers were VELARs legally, but they were also used for some early video bits/pictures and so badged Range Rover for that.

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

Ah that brings me back to my old 1989 Classic (black with tan interior). Especially racing a late night country road far from any "urban lights" (very difficult in Holland) and the light switch cutting out and I had to crawl back in pitch dark underneath the trees !!! That and many other electrical issues made me get rid of it Sad

Glad the current one is much more reliable !!!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
