Window anti trap issue but only when it's cold

Hi All,

I have done a few searches but not really come up with an answer.

Basically, whenever it is cold (or even just cool), my drivers window will not auto close. It gets almost to the top and then bounces back down again, stopping a couple of inches before the fully open position. I understand that is the expected behaviour when it thinks the window is blocked. It sometimes does the same thing when holding the button too.

It does it every winter and behaves in the summer.

I've seen suggestions that it could be a faulty switch, but is the anti trap function really anything to do with the switch itself?

If so, can the individual switch be replaced or does the whole pack need replacing on the drivers door?

Or is it likely to be something else? I've tried various resets - the glass doesn't seem to be physically sticking in its guides. Not sure where else to look.

Anyone got any ideas? 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

You could try some silicone spray down the window guides on both sides, (spray on dash polish does the job). If you do have a fault it wont fix it but will make it easier for the motor to drive the window up and down.
I often Use it on the defenders with electric windows that are sluggish, its amazing how much better they work.

I've got done of that somewhere. Will give it a try.

The window doesn't feel slow or tight though - it's literally behaving as though it's blocked just before it gets to the top. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Mine does that when I try to close the window at 70mph. I have to slow down to 60mph before it will close. Obviously my window is being 'sucked out' with the speed of the car so I wonder if your window channels have swelled a bit, pinching the window. Can you get a wide blade screwdriver and make sure there aren't any tight spots in the window channel?

Just a quick follow up for this, the silicone spray appears to have totally fixed this. I was sure it was a mechanical issue but clearly not!

Thanks all! 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Mine still does this, only when very cold. Think the window rubber is less compliant, I put light pressure on top corner of the glass when it’s going in the last nit. Fine for ages then. Just that you have to stop driving to do it 🤣.
