I want a winter wheel set for travel to the Alps. I have a Disco 4 and have a winter wheel set for it... lesson learnt: I tried to spec the correct TPMS valves - as there was a swap over in tech / valve type for my model year, and of course, I got it wrong. I simply have a message on dash stating cannot see PSI. Annoying, especially as I went to some lengths for the set, refurbed alloys and expensive Nokian snow bias winters. The valves, I got wrong.

On the RR, I'd like to be sure to get it right. For the TPMS valves, were there any changes to them at any point? My model year is 67' plate, so the new screen and infotainment but just before the facelift. How would I go about being sure I get the right valves that will be ' picked up ' by the car.

But in all likelihood, for Winter wheels, you're buying a used set of wheels & putting on new tyres ?

I think the TMPS system changed somewhere late 322 time and has stayed consistent for the L405 models, but could be wrong.

If you buy a set of genuine RR L405 wheels, with TPMS valves already installed, they should work OK. Ideally the newer car they come from, the better. So I guess if you can find a private sale & confirm which car they came from, then you should be OK

Buying sensors off eBay seems fraught with issues - most seem to be north American spec for some reason - and they are incompatible.

Hence the advice to stick with Duckwortsh or other main dealers.

For what it's worth, I bought a set of 20 inch wheels and tyres that had come off of another L405. They had TPMS valves in them, but my car would not recognise them, I got a fault message within 10 miles of putting them on.
The Tyre dealer could see the valves with his probe, but they would not synch to the car. In the end we had to swap out the valves from my original 22 inch wheels (taking care to put them back on the correct corners, luckily the fitter had marked them up, offside front etc.. when he removed the wheels from the car). Once the original valves were in place all was ok.
I have the old valves they took out, they are proper LR ones, so beware.

I have a spare set of four JLR valves that are correct for my MY17.

If you buy a set of used wheels which don’t have them fitted already, you’re welcome to buy them for the £100 that they cost me.

You might be OK depending on the wheels you get. I bought 20" L405 takeoff wheels from Duckworths in about 2016 I think and when I came to put them on my 2017 MY car as winter wheels the TPMS worked as normal. Only Range Rovers since 1988

A warning about buying TPMS sensors/valves on eBay - I bought what turned out to be fakes from eBay! It was expensive to have the dealer fix it by buying OEM ones through them and have them install it.

The OEM ones from the dealer works but it was expensive. These were for my winter wheel set.

If you get the incorrect model non-programmable sensors you have to physically remove them to install some that work. If I were to do it again, to save money I would buy generic programmable TPMS sensors/valves that do multiple frequencies. And buy a TPMS programming tool for those programmable valves. The Autel brand makes both valves and TPMS tools - I think there are other brands that make them too. The programmable valves cost less than OEM ones and you cannot buy the wrong frequency because they work with both frequencies that Land Rover uses - you can change the programming while they are installed in the wheel.

As for used TPMS sensors keep in mind that they have limited battery life and the batteries are not replaceable. L405 2016 - Supercharged V6 petrol 380hp
