Just a thought.
I recently had the gasket fail on the oil cooler.
Coolant in oil.....but also oil in coolant.
Look in the coolant expansion tank. If signs of oil in there, there it may (also) be an oil cooler problem

And it’s gone. Thanks to everyone for their input - glad the bloody thing has gone but also pretty gutted  1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

Yes, it leaked both ways when my oil cooler needed to be replaced.

It’s a shame if it’s the head gasket, I too have never heard of failures on a 4.4, though that doesn’t help you I know…..

I’d be wanting to know it’s not the oil cooler for sure, but get that your garage should know what they are on about….
