Wont allow ignition key to turn

My RR TDV8 has a problem which prevents the ignition key entering/turning. I have discovered that if I disconnect the battery and then reconnect it the problem goes away....ie key turns as normal. Switch off key out....same problem.
Any help or pointers gratefully accepted. Bob

Does the ignition lock on a 2007 vehicle work the same way as the earlier vehicle? (Just with the lock in a different place)

If so then this might be an easy fix: Youtube - Bens Garage - Range Rover Key Won't Turn

RJ,

Yes, it is the same, at least up to 2008 for sure. My employer's is a 08 Supercharged and had the same happen to him last month. He only was able to get it fixed a couple days ago at the cost of 700€ with the goldcar chip bypass method.

Ironically, mine got stuck again yesterday after 1 year. Ben's video is gold. The rubber mallet + WD40 combo worked a treat. I hadn't done anything to it when it first happened last year; was just a hiccup.

This morning I took off the column shroud and noticed that some spanner wielding primate had already been there before. The ECU box is full of scars an there's a cover plate corner broken off...Of course the primate's brain could only go that far because adding some oil would require some elevated functionality of abstract thinking...This kept it going for 2 years or more, can't know exactly how long, with just that intermediate hiccup. I hope I still caught it early on. If not, my local (now) indy can get it fixed properly with 350€ on a short notice. But at the moment, I'd rather spend this money doing more important things on the car...
