Ceramic coating

Weather conditions just right today, so thought I'd give this ceramic coating malarkey a go! Pleased with the results. A good wash first and then clay mitt, resin polish and Jeemootown 10H ceramic coating. Just have to hope it doesn't rain now whilst it cures!

Saw the pics showing the amazing shine, absolutely beautiful, some good elbow grease there guys Bow down Thumbs Up Lovely looking cars, I am now finally warming up to the L405

Good tip about the clay mitt, as opposed to a clay bar, thought this would a cracking time saver, then I went back outside and looked at my 2006 beast again, Big Cry and realised that even using a clay mitt, I would be like King Canute on that bloody beach. Rolling with laughter

Give it a go Merchy, took about 5 hours from start to finish but I am obviously not as fastidious as the professionals, but happy with the results Thumbs Up Recommend the Halfrauds clay mitt, one drop of a clay bar and it is game over Sad Worth some research, the Auto Glym ceramic kit is twice as expensive and is not a proper ceramic coat. The Jeemootown stuff is great and I have enough product left for a few more coats Thumbs Up Oh and did not use my DA polisher, waste of time, elbow grease is best Laughing SDV8 AB MY 2019

Cheers Andy B Thumbs Up

Ordered one of the internet this evening. Later this week, the Grand daughter will be back in school, then I will have time to try it out. Know what you mean about the clay bar, from past experience Embarassed

Your ceramic coating sounds reasonable, especially with enough left for multiple applications, I could also do the Daughter's car, as a surprise for her!! Thanks for the tip and encouragement Thumbs Up

Awesome finish there Andy. We missed the snow, but managed to get enough dirty rain to ruin a clean finish Big Cry

I took my car back to where I had it coated last year... we checked the paint work it looks good... one scratch that they managed to polish out. They then treated the car to a top up coat.

I am so happy with the coating... it takes me less that one hour of not very hard work to get the car shining again... no dirt stays on the wheels - inside or outside (summer and winter rims treated too) ... I would recommend for a new car....
My Mini on the other hand doesn't have it and takes just as long to clean and when I change from summer to winter (and back) the wheels take at least 30 minutes each to get the inside clean... SDV8 AB MY 2020

luxmoggy....

what did they do to "top up" the old ceramic coat? Did they just wash it and apply another coat? I heard if you polish cured ceramic coat it can mess it up as you will be removing some of it.

Also when you say less that 1 hour to get it shining again....are you talking about a wash or are you actually waxing over the cured ceramic coat? 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

The Top-up tech brochure stuff... it is a wash that adds a small coat on top of the existing coating (it is from the same manufacture as the coating)... so increases the life of the full coating... not sure if it really does something but for cost of the full clean of the car inside and out, I think it was worth it...

There was one scratch in the paint where they need to polish it and re-apply the coating... I need to wait for the area to harden again...

I don't wax on top of the coating... it is pressure wash to get the mud off, then snow foam, then rinse off the car... bucket and microfibre cloth to get any bit that didn't come off (normally on the lower door)... then dry the car with microfibre clothes... It then looks like the day they coated it... SDV8 AB MY 2020

Nice. Ok I have the soap that has silica in it.

But I’m wondering what you do after a few years and need a new coat of ceramic what I process is so you don’t really hose the current coating and make it blotchy/uneven. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

I will ask next time I am in contact with them. The guys seem to know what they are doing. I might try the foam soap made by the manufacturer of the coating and they are the local reseller of this stuff.

Like I said the area with the scratch matches with the area around it. I will take a photo this afternoon if the sun is up. SDV8 AB MY 2020
