Gearbox Oil change, reset?

Hi
2010 3.6 TDV8 with 6 Speed box, 75k miles

I am gong to change the gearbox oil (not mega flush, I know all the arguments but it's not an option at the moment)

Two questions:

Do I reset the gearbox (I Have a Gap Tool)? I see a lot of conflicting comments on this

The Gap tool live value for gearbox temp is N/A, this would suggest it's not available as I would have thought a fault (broken wire etc) would have given a zero or funny value. What are other peoples experience with this?

Thanks in advance! 2010 3.6 TDV8

No need to reset, I have done many of these on both full fat and RR sports, all engine sizes, 5,6 and 8 speed and have never had to do a reset Thumbs Up

Exactly the same question was asked on the RRS forum the other day. Here's a copy and paste of my post...

I think some do and some don't. Personally, I never have. My reasoning behind this is that sometimes, after resetting the gearbox adaptations, the gear changes can be a little harsh and it can hold onto the gears a little longer than usual, whilst the gearbox is learning the optimum adaptation values.

As the gearbox is always constantly learning and adapting to the driving style and also adapting to the degradation or indeed, improvement, in fluid quality, the end result would be the same. Not resetting the adaptation values however, would avoid any harshness in the gear changes whilst the gearbox is optimising itself.

Edit: just noticed Rob has already linked to the same post above. Oops. Embarassed Kev

I had always understood it to be a no. However a specialist did it to mine without asking recently after a service - doesn’t seem to have had any negative effects. Car is on 150k, gearbox is on about 7k 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)
