Just had my L405 in for service (its done 36,000 miles) and they have advised the front brake pads are 55% worn and should be replaced and there is slight movement in the dynamic bushes and they should be replaced. They have quoted £712 for the front pads and £500 for the bushes.
The car is a LWB SVautobiography, its had a very easy life from new and has been over serviced, all by main agent, they replaced the ARC bushes 2,000 miles ago under warranty as well as the steering rack, also under warranty. Can anyone tell me if the price is the going rate for pads and bushes and what the Dynamic bushes actually do?

Okay, so there are some very ambiguous terms being used by your dealer. There are no such things as 'Dynamic Bushes'. Likewise, there are no such things as 'ARC Bushes'.

However, your vehicle is equipped with a Dynamic Response system part of which takes the form of hydraulic pistons within both the front and rear stabiliser bars (aka active anti-roll bars). There are bushings associated with these bars, as depicted in the below image, in blue. When your dealer is referring to 'dynamic bushes' he may be referring to these.

ARC (Active Roll Control) is another term used to refer to the Dynamic Response system. 'ARC bushes' therefore is likely also referring to the bushings associated with the front and rear active anti-roll bars ie. the same parts.

If I were in your shoes, I would ask some questions to clarify what exactly was replaced 2000 miles ago and what they are proposing to replace now. If they are talking about replacing the same parts again, depending on the timeframe, you may have a valid warranty claim.

1/2 worn pads need replacing? For £700?? Tell them to off.... yes the genuine pads are expensive, but not £700 expensive and even allowing for 2 hours of labour, and on a ramp they only take 1/2 hour to do, that’s ridiculous. Absolutely no need at 45% remaining, however having covered 36k if you haven’t had them changed it may be that the actual wear is higher. 36k is a good run for a set of pads..

Dynamic bushes? They cold be referring to the inner bush on the bottom control arm. This is a big bush and has been referred to the hydrobush to me before.

If as above they are referring to the ARB bushes then these are £15 each, and just rubber. I did mine on the drive in a couple of hours with a big bar and some swear words. Not a long or difficult job. 1 hour on a ramp tops. So total cost £150 worst case from dealer.

Clarify what was done on the warranty claim, and clarify what they are proposing to change. Most dealers do a little video to show you.

Get a parts price for genuine pads from robin at duckworth parts, or just ring your dealers parts department and ask for a price.... then take that to the service desk and ask how they are proposing to spend the other 2 hours they are billing you for. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Completely agree with you NMJ, I too would be telling them to off!

Those bottom arm bushes are referred to hydro or hydra bushes because they are oil filled, to give a more progressive response. I'm not sure if they wear prematurely on the FFRR, but I know on the Sports, they chew through them. Kev

Yes, that’s sounds about right, aparently the ones on mine were done by the supplying dealer prior to me getting it at 37k. Was pointed out to me in the little condition video that my local stealer did for me while it was in to have the updated oil sensor wiring. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I am sorry i would never go back to a place that

A) says you should replace pads at 55% wear
B) want to charge you £700 to change said pads

i do mine on the drive at home takes me about 30mins per wheel this includes having a little clean up of each caliper!!

Thanks for all your replies, I have spoken with them this morning and they have confirmed the bushes that they replaced 2000 miles ago are the same item that now have play in them, not covered under warranty as more then 12 months ago and its just out of manufactures warranty, and the extended warranty doesn't cover these. They also said they have made a mistake with the price of the brake pads, they should be £750!!
Don't think we'll be returning!

The bushes fitted and supplied 2000 miles ago should have a reasonable life expectancy regardless of the manufacturers warranty period. 2000 miles is not a reasonable life expectancy and I would be arguing the point with the dealer. As for the brakes, as said by others, find a decent indie. The price quoted is an absolute rip off.

Funny thing is that I've had my car from new and after 72,000 miles I still have plenty of meat left on my front brake pads. Weirdly I had to have the rear changed at 60k + miles!

Sounds like they are fishing for work. Bushes which were fitted 2000 miles ago should not be duff.

Brakes aren’t that much.....unless they have some super extra stoppy pads on the SVA? Which I’m pretty sure they don’t, same pads and callipers as on the 4.4..... pads cost from £50, gen pads were £230 a set from Robin at duckworth parts last time I checked.

As said it’s about 1/2 hour a wheel on the drive and a lot less on the ramp, so that comes out at £520/he they want to charge. I know they have set prices for things, but that is frankly ludicrous. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
