Ticking noise form rear part of engine bay

Hello all,

never ending story with my 2011 4.4. TDV8.... In 18 months since I own it, for 6 has been with open bonnet in some garage, either dealer and indy. Repaired high pressure fuel pump, twice the injectors, replaced fuel tank's pump and signal sender, EGR sensor A, DPF sensor, cooler gaskets (all), fan and fan clutch... A Nightmare...

Now I have no more error codes nor limp modes, but..... Is the time of a strange ticking noise coming from rear lower part of engine bay. I can hear it clearly at any speed, while can't hear it listening from the front part of the engine.

So far I've been told by Indy it is the chain loose... and that it's not from the chain but from an undisclosed part that will keep working until will fail (dealers are genius)....

Any thought?

Thanks to all!

Mine does this, not as deep a sound as yours, mines a lighter/higher “tick tick” metallic noise from the rear of the engine, drivers side (RHD) and low down, not near the top at all.

Garage says it’s fine, “normal” hmmm. No error codes. No smoke. I thought maybe a failing injector.

Only once warmed up. Never when cold. Is yours temp-dependant? 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

It could be a hydraulic lifter. The only way to definately know is to get the heads off. Kev

Not temp dependent, since starting to stop, keeps ticking the same way, perhaps litter louder at very cold start but for few second, then constant and related to rpm, like something moving with shaft or related.

Could be a failing injector, which has got a bit noisier, or as said one of the lifters with a bit of slack.

As far as I can think there are no chain driven things at the rear of the engine. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I would exclude the injectors, since were just overhauled and adjusted (twice, after the high pressure pump failed sending metal filings all over the fuel system), in addition the engine runs well, without hesitation.

More likely the lifters at this point, but shouldn't I hear the noise also from the top of the engine? Because I can hear it clearly only from the cockpit and from under the wheel arches, as if it came from the gearbox, while listening to the engine from above it is not heard at all.

I am puzzled becasue the dealer said is nothing to worry about, but said the same thing just before the fuel pump failed,
