Hi first-timer on this site, but owner of FFRR’s since 2010. Very reluctant to use the LR scissor-jack (the one on my 2005 model failed). So would like to equip myself with telescopic bottle-jack but can’t re-find the technicals on minimum size and total lift required to say change a punctured wheel (22” with deployable side steps). been looking on SGS Engineering site but not sure if either of the 4 tonne telescopic (min 265mm -610 mm) or 5 tonne (225mm - 500mm) would suit. Anyone have a recommendation(s) please?

I can't give you an answer - but thanks for the reminder - I still haven't bought one....

I do need to put my winter wheels on, so will try to remember to measure the required height whilst doing that.

As I'm sure you know, the jacking point with deployable steps is quite low - great for a trolley jack, but makes it a PITA for a bottle.

Also beware that the min & max quotes for most bottles cannot be relied upon as many have a screw winder on top that only works without a load.

Looking at the space available & the height you need, I expect that it will need to be telescopic / multi section as it will need to lift more than it's own height

Hi Alistair, Thanks for your interest. I realise the deployable steps ‘shrink’ the operating height. Mentioned the SGS Eng 4T & 5T jacks as the smaller ones had the ‘screw thread type extension/telescopic’ and want to avoid that. Also read somewhere that can utilise the ‘off-road’ height to gain the additional space, just trying to workout the minimum jack height taking that approach and assuming a flat 22” tyre with 40 profile might require. Any guidance would be extremely useful - tro just more than myself I suspect.

Spent a little time checking out the requirements:
So essentially at normal height of the jack point on the deployable steps and no-flat tyre ~170mm - flat will reduce height by up to ~70mm on 22” rims
Set to off ‘off-road’ height the deployable steps jack point at ~220mm (up to 70mm less with a flat tyre)
To raise the tyre clear it requires a lift of <30mm>2.5T telescopic bottle jack with min height of between 150-220mm (+ plank/spacer of up to 60mm to run flat type onto) & >350mm max height with a suitable “U” shaped ‘jack-pad’
Any ideas ?

I finally did my wheel swap yesterday and did some measuring too.

Mine seemed lower at the front than the rear - but was playing around raising & lowering, so may have got that wrong.

I think it needs to be shorter than 150mm but capable of lifting to 300mm

I guess the other plan is a block of wood the same height as the tyre, that you could drive on to....

I was also uncertain that I'd want to use a bottle jack with a small head, even with a jack pad

Photos leave a bit to be desired - this was the front - didn't take any of the rear as I think I'd already talked myself out of it by then ....

Closest fit to specs currently seen is a weber ATDx3-185 (3T, 185mm min & 400 max & no screw) - need to phone to check and price.
ACPServices has a telescopic (no screw) ATN10-175 (10T 175min but can’t find max height - need to phone & check specs
Will post findings.

BTW - I did buy a slotted pad ages ago - not quite convinced - I think it would help but would need gluing top the jack. Got me thinking whether taking a grinder to the jack might be better....

If its any comfort I discovered the MOD replace LR scissor-jacks with Weber ATDX3–185’s (185 min + 215 lift - no screw section), not cheap but not the most expensive telescopic
