I did this on the upper arms where the ball joint faces downwards when I replaced the bushes on that arm. If the arms are being replaced you could leave the bolt on the top of the lower arm and hit it out on the bolt with a large hammer. Sometimes they go sometimes not. Did this on my Porsches as the arms on those were cast so would snap trying to bash them out on the arm.

I am good with destroying the ball joint as I have replacements. I was just thinking if I clubbed the arms it would remove the ball joint more easily than if I split the arms first. I just wondered if it would work. 2011 4.4tdv8 Vogue

Which ones are you doing the uppers with the separate ball joint left on the pic or lower with the integrated ball joint right on the picture?

You can give it a go depends on how badly corroded in there they are. Most people I've seen post who've done in needed to smash them out use chisels or impact hammers or heat.
