Trepidation

Yesterday, for the first time since March 13th, I had somewhere to go in the FFRR. In lockdown I took the precaution of attaching an optimate solar powered battery conditioner, so hoped the battery was ok, left the hand brake off so it didn’t seize on and chocked the wheels. Still, as I opened the door, I had that worrying feeling we all know.....

I pressed the starter, heard a whirring noise and she fired up. No coughs or splutters and let her get up to temperature before setting off. A gentle drive at first but after an hour or so I got to a dual carriageway and floored it; engine picked up immediately and still no bongs.

So 230 miles of varied driving and not a problem, even with 3 month old diesel in the tank. Is this too good to be true?!

What I did realise very quickly though was how much I had missed driving this brilliant car.

Took the FF to Screwfix earlier with a stop off at the camping shop. A round trip of 28 miles.

New mats in, bit of a hoover and a wipe of the interior. It was very relaxing. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Andy, dont let it get up to temperature before moving off, it's the worst you can do, drive it straight away, dont give it the right foot until it's warmed up though.

To be honest, the only reason it was idling so long before moving off was I was trying to remember how to change the country on the satnav....... the last previous journey, on 13th March began in the middle of France! I also had to switch the clock to BST.

Point taken on driving straight away though, but I did give it a while for planting the right boot. Doesn’t the engine sound great when properly warmed!

I was also glad to get moving again in the Range Rover after a couple of months in the wife's car- well not actually - as I don't do the supermarket trips. Very Happy Geoff

The engine does indeed sound amazing and the performance for such a big car also.

Glad it's all good.

Mine's still sitting in the driveway on SORN, has been since March and could well be there until next year if work situation turns out as I'm being told, no need to go to office until at least then.

Been on the CTEK the whole time so dont have too many worries about starting up and getting going but I do wonder how it will feel climbing up into that big leather throne again. I really miss it. In fact think I might spend my lunch break just sat in the car

Glad others are getting back to enjoying theirs though Thumbs Up 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

I've been using mine every other week for a run out to the local farmers shop to pickup fresh veg supplies Smile

I have been managing to take the long way home to ensure (a) it warms up properly, and (b) just to give it a good run out. Current

I'm looking forward to joining in this enjoyment.

Going to look at my first L322 tomorrow.

An Orkney grey AB on a 12 plate with magnolia and black interior (according to the garage selling it) that's done 78k miles with a full LR service history.

Is it wrong to be this excited at my age? (I was 60 yesterday!)

Dunc. The life you have is the only one you'll get; make the most of it.
