That picture is the door check strap Ryan... Make sure the torque bolt is tight holding it (as they come loose ALL THE TIME!!!) |

Wd40 isn't a lubricant... put some grease on there. |

Take your point Brad, have ordered female Torx sockets... so I can grease and tighten Torx bolt at same time

WD-40 has it's uses, mostly for easing but oil or grease needs to be used afterwards.

I tend to have a can of white lithium grease knocking around which I use for hinges, check straps and the like. Works well, worth giving all the hinges, straps and the like a good squirt with some of that before starting to take anything apart.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Their use of the word "lubricant" is loose at best. Technically any liquid could be called a lubricant. It isn't actually a lubricant in the same way something like grease is. Just get yourself a jar of marine grease. |

WD40 contains light oil, and is certainly a lubricant. A lubricant with far better lubricating properties for metal surfaces than water. It is not a relevant comparison.

There is nothing wrong with WD40 - it has its purposes - so does grease. The secret is knowing when to use them. They are both perfect for their intended purposes.

Correct, it isn't a lubricant in the way grease is... which is what a hinge wants. You wouldn't lubricate your boat prop/shaft with wd40, but it is helpful if you're trying to remove it. They all have their uses. |

Ryan, i wouldn't grease your door check strap as this will give the door less resistance! This will mean the door will keep closing on you!

Slightly loosened the bolt on the door check strap (the one in the middle) by using a female torx socket. When loosened, sprayed some “WD-40 Specialist Range - High Performance PTFE Lubricant”. Then tightened the bolt and hey presto, noise gone 👍🏻 |

I have the same problem. Don't have any torx sockets though. To save me ordering a whole set can anyone tell me what size I need? Thanks. |
