Help please - dropped hose spring retaining clip!!!

Hi guys

I have a 4.4TDV8 Westminster with the good old coolant low level sensor warning that I attempted to sort out today by replacing the expansion tank.

All was going well until I came to the hose at the bottom of the tank. Having found the retaining spring clip on the fitting I removed it but still couldn't release the fitting - not sure how they work? Do you twist...pull..both....and having given up to fight it out another day I then stupidly dropped the retaining clip when trying to put it back with it nowhere to be found in the bowels of the undertrays etc.

I think the clip in question is a 'Coolant Flange Spring 31799 by Febi Bilstein' at least that's certainly what it looked like but I cant find it as a Range Rover part.

If anyone has any idea exactly what it is and exactly how the fitting is removed from the expansion tank I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

Are they not simply the spring hose clips ?
You pinch the upstand together with a pair of pliers (there are special pliers for them but I've never needed them).

It will almost certainly be sitting on top of the subframe. Too many toys, not enough time

Hi thanks for the input John but no it wasn't the usual spring hose clip otherwise all would have been well.

The hose at the bottom of the expansion tank has a plastic 90 degree fitting that I've not seen before with the aforementioned clip to secure it in place. Once the spring clip had been removed it still wouldn't budge and i didn't want to force it in case the plastic broke.

Has anyone on here changed the expansion tank on the 4.4TDV8 in particular as I believe the tank and fittings are slightly different to other models?

Thanks again

OK, I've done a search as I was sure it was a spring clip.

Take a look at this link on fb for the hose assembly:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-4-4...1655704891

If that is the bit you dropped it is called a febi wire lock/retaining clip.
I don't know the size so can't help where to get one from except the dealers.
Hope that might help a bit though. Too many toys, not enough time

Thanks again guys for the swift help.

Perhaps Nino Nino can confirm as per Baltic Blues comment.

The clip I dropped was definitely one of these:

Thanks for the ebay link John but I'm not sure that is the same as the hose on mine as it doesn't appear to have the 90 degree plastic connector mine has - maybe that's a separate part?

I'll maybe have another look tomorrow and post a pic of the connector on mine.

Thanks all

Could you use one of those extending magnetic pens to wave it around in the hope of snagging the clip?

The way I look at it is if the clip got into a crevice, then it should come out the same way!

,
that is the clip, it holds el. conector plug in place. from memory once you remove clip just pull conector out. here are pictures of the plug in situ (image is in the mirror). as for finding lost clip - magnet is your best bet.

Mike/Nino

Thanks for the further input.

Its very odd as the fitting at the bottom of my expansion tank is very different to the pics Nino has posted so when I have a rummage for the clip I'll take a couple of pics and post them. Its a very light grey plastic 90 degree fitting between the bottom of the expansion tank and hose leading from it.

Pics to follow.

thanks guys.

John.

Perfect, that's the one in purple Mike.

It has a retaining spring clip underneath it that i managed to extract and then drop Big Cry

Once the spring clip was removed the fitting didnt want to budge but as above i wasnt sure in which direction to apply a little force in fear of breaking it.

Do you know if the part highlighted in purple has a part number please if not I'll pop into my local dealer and ask them how to get it off.

Thanks again for the help!

John.

You could try hosing down the side of the engine to see if you can wash the clip out. Thumbs Up

Would taking the air filter box out help you to get easier access?.
It is a fairly easy job and frees up a big space.
(I have only removed the passenger side one, but I think the drivers is similar.
