Hi thanks for the input John but no it wasn't the usual spring hose clip otherwise all would have been well.

Could you use one of those extending magnetic pens to wave it around in the hope of snagging the clip?

You could try hosing down the side of the engine to see if you can wash the clip out. |

Would taking the air filter box out help you to get easier access?.
