Thatcham 'tracker'

Been talking to Direct Line re-TDV8 4.4 insurance [when I can find one] & they require a Thatcham 5, 6 or 7.
Seems it's purely to cover them [me as well, but in reality them]in case of theft so a Thatcham 7 would suffice.
As far as I can see, a 2012 L322 doesn't have a tracker built in? If this is the case, can anyone recommend a tracker fitting company that they've had dealings with?
I've found 'tracker fit.com' [£149.00 fitted] as the likeliest candidate so far but if there's a forum member who does this then I would rather push my business towards them if possible.

Thanks in advance.

They have a "Range Rover" one too:

The LR recommended one was from Trackstar, there was some suggestion that the warranty would be affected by fitting a different one, presumably on compatibility with the wiring loom etc. Many insurers would have insisted on a tracker when the cars were new, so you might find that there already is one fitted. That was true of my 2012 WM. I had a Trackstar one and while the subscription was not cheap it did not interfere with the car's systems and seemed to work OK. Trackstar were merged into another group, but still exist AFAIK. Only Range Rovers since 1988

DL said the same to me when I asked for a price for insurance for my 57 plate when I got it a couple of years ago. Have used DL for years but I thought this was ridiculous. They insisted because they said it would be targeted for theft as 'a high value vehicle'. Rubbish I thought, it's over 10 years old and well over 100k miles. Their quote was over £700. I went online to one of the insurance sites and ended up with Hastings Direct IIRC with a similar policy for about half the cost of DL and no mention of a tracker requirement. Now I'm with GA for the FF and still no mention of a tracker. Previously a 2008MY Tonga Green Vogue SE 3.6 TDV8

Insurance companies can appear completely random, based upon their current desired risk profile which can change over time.

A few years back I went with Aviva as they were pretty much the only ones that would touch my 17 year on a provisional in my XJ Jag - and continue to insure him with no hike in premiums once he'd passed so could drive on his own. Now their profile has changed, they wouldn't touch him when he bought his own Jag despite his older Volvo being with them, and wouldn't keep him insured on my car when I swapped to the RR (not an issue as he'd rarely, if ever, drive it) as they now won't insure high risk vehicles for under-25s.

They can also do bizarre things, like if you ride a motorbike and say you use a chain on it, some companies will raise your premium.

I've got a CAT 6 Smartrack Protector Pro on my 911, When I bought the car everyone wanted a tracker so I had one fitted. Every renewal since moving round various companies and non have insisted on it or reduced the price because it is there Censored

You hear horror stories about companies not monitoring them properly aswell should the worst happen but I've tested mine by accident a few times over the years, a few battery disconnects and the phone rings within a few minutes and just the other month I trailered the car and forgot, no more than 3 mile up the road and the phone was ringing.

When it is fitted I would also insist on it being buried and fitted 'properly', I can remember the guy trying to just slot mine behind a piece of trim on the end of the dash until I stopped him. Current

I've just been through the renewal game on mine and was very surprised to find how many insurance companies were insisting on a tracker this year. Even the one I was with already now require one.

The cheapest no tracker quote was a lot more expensive than the tracker required quotes so I'm seriously considering fitting one now too, although I'm very sceptical that it's worthwhile on a 9 year old car. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Just had a letter off DL ins asking for tracker details , I phoned them and they said they would see if the underwriters would honour my policy as at no point was a tracker mentioned be until then it would not be insured for theft . I told them it's a 14 year old car and that I would have never insured in the first place because they are no cheaper than anywhere else.
Anyways I phoned the wife's company admiral and went multi cover . So I've cancelled with DL and there green line breakdown cover , the guy said I am not the only one to do this , so I've insurance and now rac breakdown for £45 less and no tracker required
I couldn't believe they would not cover until they made further inquiries because you can bet your bottom dollar if anything happened it would have been sorry sir but your insurance is void
