Whilst I do wonder, I only use AF-L in the TDV8 and ZF in the transmission.

It is only recommended by Landrover as there is a financial and technical relationship between the two. Landrover have their own specs now (derived from ford specs) and as long as the oil is from a reputable brand and meets or exceeds the correct spec then all will be good.
