I wouldn't believe everything you read on the link just yet.

I have noticed this morning that some PCV vehicles are showing the passenger car rate rather than the £100 LGV/PCV rate and others are showing the correct rate.

I'd give it a day or two for TfL to sort the gremlins out. 2019 BMW 440i convertable (hers)

Likewise, I swapped from, as far as I'm concerned, a much more economical 2.5l TD5 Defender to a 5.0 S/C L322, as the latter is apparently better for the environment in London Smile.

The very same diesels that were getting tax cuts on them are now being hounded out.

I checked my old Mondeo and Clio and they won’t attract a charge. Yet a diesel made 20 years later will.

I don’t have a huge problem with ULEZ. EU5 and earlier diesels stink (I should know, I’ve got one) and it makes me wince to see my little boy breathing that air on the way to nursery because he doesn’t know to hold is breath when an old smoker barrels past, and we live at the 10th highest altitude in London in a leafy ‘village’ setting, but it’s really bad as traffic filters through snag points and over the speed bumps. The pollution measurements in London don’t lie, we have a real problem like most cities.

I do not have a problem with diesels for what they do best: economical out of town, or for towing, HGV and buses, or my cross-continental jaunts.

What I do have a massive problem with is the fact that black cabs are excluded when they are one of the greatest pollution menaces. And I have a problem with noddy traffic controls that simply drive up congestion or force braking/acceleration increasing pollution. And I have a problem that the government pivoted so quickly from pro-diesel to anti-diesel without so much as an apology let alone a smidge of compensation or empathy. A very poor show. Ditto BoJo who actually introduced this scheme and then the current mayor who kindly brought the date forward just to rub salt in.

But for my little boy... it can only be a good thing and no one matters more. No one! Thumbs Up

Ilard, when speed bumps were all the rage in the 2000/naughties, I can recall a council workers magazine /publication, that had a speed bump on the front page with the statement that the pollution from the speed bumps would kill many more people than any speeding car. Shamefully they proceeded to roll out the speed bump programme

I’m all for 20 mph near schools when there is a risk of kids run out from behind parked cars, but for the rest I’m not convinced slowing cars down to a crawl serves any useful purpose.

Likewise euro5 engines are not as dreadful as many other pollution sources , and diesel has other pluses over petrol co2, etc Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
