2003 TD6 with 115k miles - what should i plan for

As above, had our 2003 TD6 for 9 years now, and aside from a recon box about 7 years/14k miles ago shes been fairly trouble free. Replaced front air bag assemblies before christmas, new brakes all round and brake pipes.

Am thinking of keeping her but what else should i potentially budget for, given her age and mileage?

Am thinking rear air bags and new shocks, what else could need replacing? (granted, thats a VERY open question) Whistle

As you have already done the gearbox, you have done the most expensive bit. If you haven't already done the front suspension parts like shocks, control arms and ball joints, they should probably be on your list.

If you plan to keep it I would definitely go for rust proofing as soon as possible! ----------

I am in a similar place with an 05 on 108k, Gearbox is done, front Air shocks.
Calipers and discs all around, rear brake pipes and rear trailing arms for the camber.

Where did you buy your brake calipers from?
I swapped my rears and then had to swap them again with a set from Land rover.

I would swap the fuel filter and change the oil in the diffs and transfer case if you have not done this yet.
Also the the oil crankcase breather and the inline filter for the turbo vent filter.

If anyone has had their L322 undersealed id be interested to know what the cost is where to go etc.

For an 03:

I would drop the front and rear subframes off the car
Remove all the plastic coverings down the sides and underneath, along with the sidesteps
Remove all four inner wheelarches
Remove the reservoir
Remove the exhaust and heat protection
Strip the front off the car
remove rear bumper cover

You should then be able to assess the state of the body underneath (especially rear jacking point area), condition of subframes, all brake lines, reservoir (although the early ones were galvanised), and just about anything else, including tackling a/c condenser, radiator, water pump, thermostat/s, oil cooler

A big job, and some specialist kit needed, but only by doing this will you be able to futureproof properly (until the next time).

Along with that prepare to replace all suspension bushes, track rod ends, toe arms.

If I hadn't decided to sell my 02 this would have been the next set of jobs, for the summer.... .

My TD6 is at 150000 miles 245000klms. Fortunately, rust is non-existent here in West Australia but I have had to address a few things in my 4-year ownership from 195000klm. The in-tank Fuel pump packed up so I changed both, two injectors have given problems and have been changed both front struts and bags changed. Expansion tank float, All easy DIY with help from the forum once diagnosed. 2007 TDV8 VSE
2003 TD6 gone.
2002 P38a gone
1999 P38a gone
1997 p38a gone
1993 VSE gone
1992 VSE gone
1966 Series 2a with V8 conversion gone

mines touching 190k miles.
ive done calipers/disc and brake lines most of the front suspension bar the struts, its also had a recon box and 3 injectors.
about to put 2 more in it too. im determined to get it to 200k!

looking at what youve done already i would suggest injectors could be pulled and checked/serviced. but if its running well then all may be OK.

Hey Cooper

I didnt do the calipers, i should of said just Brembo discs and pads all round. Fuel filter is done every 18 months and i changed the oil breather filter for the newer 'vortex' type.

what/where is the inline filter for the turbo vent filter?? Embarassed

Im thinking of undersealing her this summer, was going to do it myself the old fashioned way though, scrape everything thats loose off with a wire brush, and waxoyl or hammerite everytihng i can see, unless theres a better way?
