There are 3 elements you need to consider.

>The blade - easy
>The transponder that unlocks the steering column and dissables the immobiliser - You can take it out of your key and transplant possibly.
>The RF signal to unlock the doors - not so sure on this, even if it is the same mhz it still has to speak the same language?

It's a mod I would love to do myself, if you figure it out, do let me know.

Having had 2 cars with those flip keys there is one other bit that you need.......... the internal battery in the fob is recharged magically through the key blade / proximity to the steering column so you also need the charging device. The fob has to be dismantled to change the battery thus destroying it's waterproofing and they are guaranteed watertight down to 100m.......
They are a BMW part as well.
I head a nice story when I was on the Home of the Legend day a few years back - went like this - when BMW was developing the L322 LR wanted these key fobs (BMW had then on their cars) which are made by Hella. BMW told LR that they were not suitable for LR use as they were not waterproof............... BMW then sold LR to Ford, LR was by then doing D3 and RRS development and again approached Hella who apparently were surprised that they had not been asked for the L322. LR boys mentioned they had been told they were not waterproofed and could Hella make them a waterproof version - Hella replied "what do you mean not waterproof they are watertight down to 100m!" BMW wanted to keep those fobs as something just for BMW's 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

The way i'm thinking is just to butcher orig key of its insides so frequency/ immobilsing shouldn't be a problem. As you state the key blade itself is easy so the only question is would the insides be removable from original key and be fixable in appropriate position in new key to allow functionality. In theory as long as the original button mechanism fits below the new rubber part of the key it should work.

Might take key apart tomorrow as had a few beers tonight Whistle

Ah, not considered charging issue. I guess they would be a flip key available with conventional battery?

Our keys are NOT charged. Only the BMW Diamond shape keys are charged whilst in the ignition. The keys we use are just the standard BMW keys from around 2001.

Most tech on the pre facelift RR's is BMW 2000 tech, BMW saw no reason to give LR anything good and provided no further development for the RR other than that it did to launch the model.

I've just researched this and the solution seems to be:

Move over to the diamond key as this has compatible electronics. Then butcher that key and fit it into this:

hi, been there and done this one, the main prob is the batt, as said our cars dont charge the key so you would have to install a batt. here are a few pics of what you will see, you can get the key open with a craft knife and a bit of patience. i would love to swap keys and i think there would be a big gold star for who does it

Dave, on that ebay link, you take the internals out of the diamond key and stick then in that.

The battery is then user replaceable like our keys...

So you'd need:

The shell from ebay
The Transponder from your original key
The electrics from the diamond key

thats a good find dan...wouldn't be great if we only had one button on the remote, press once for unlock, press again for lock...looking at those pics i think i might 'cut' the tail gate unlock circuit as i dont use that anyway... ... - .- -.
