Strange goings on. Could theses issues be linked? | |
Had to go upto visit the Mother in law in Manchester on Monday so I decided to take the Range Rover (2010 L322). Noticed on the way up that the headlights were on although the headlamp switch was set to auto and the weather was clear and fine. Didn’t really give it a second thought - just turned the headlight switch to off and carried on enjoying the drive. Once we arrived at in laws we then had to go out and visit every other Tom, Dick and Harry that we hadn’t seen for ages. Each time I got out I switched the headlamp switch back to auto and every time I switch the vehicle back on the headlamps came on. The weather was clear and fine so there was nothing to trigger the headlamps to come on.
Second issue: Half way up the M6 it started to rain so on went the wipers. Chatting away to the wife as we trundled along not really paying a huge amount of attention to what I was doing until I realised I was having to keep switching the wipers on and off manually. Then the wipers started having a mind of their own, instead of 1 touch down for three wipes and then the obligatory final wipe the wipes just kept going, then they just parked in the middle of the screen... Flicked the switch up to speed 1 and they started again, then they would just stop in random places on the screen. Thankfully it was only a short shower and we carried on to our destination.
Driving around up there for two days and the headlamp issue didn’t seem to be resolving itself so I just kept switching the lights on and off as needed. The real fun started last night on the way home. Left Manchester around 8pm to avoid the traffic, had a great drive down as far as Bristol until the M5 came to a grinding haunt for nearly 2hrs as the fire brigade tried to bring a lorry load of hay that had caught fire under control. Just as we cleared the incident the heavens opened and on went the wipers. Well I can honestly say it was an eventful 100+ miles home from there, the wipers had a mind of their own, they were on, off, parked in the middle of the screen, parked in the vertical position, flat out and stopped, it just seemed they wanted to do what ever they wanted and in some instances they didn’t want to do anything at all which proved quite interesting. Thankfully the roads were empty at that time of the morning so we just kept going.
Is there anyway both issues could be linked? The auto headlamp issue could have been going on for ages and I just haven’t noticed. Obviously the wiper issue is bit of a biggy. My local indy’s Not giving anything away, he just said to drop it down and they will plug into it.
Could the wiper problem be something as simple as just be tired relay?
Has anybody else had similar problems?
Cheers
Dave
