I should love the TDV8 we’ve bought but I"m struggling to.

Every day I get this restricted performance fault and it’s getting on my nerves. I find it hard to believe the seller didnt have the same problem. It makes me wonder why he sold it now.
It's running on 22" rims and there is a road noise from one of them, consistent with an out of shape tyre. A kind of " whoop whoop" noise that speeds up as the car goes faster. They are almost brand new wheels and tyres as well.

I bought a newer RR so I would have a bit more piece of mind especially when towing. The TD6 was getting old and I started worrying about its future reliability so I decided to replace it. I thought by buying a newer one I could relax a bit but I’m still on edge.

I looked at a few and settled on this one as it had the lowest mileage and full service history.
I just wish I could sort this fault but it could be anything. On top of this I’m now worried about turbos failing which is common on these I’m told.

I had exactly the same. Get it to a diagnostic specialist, not a lr specialist. Get it fixed and go from there. Cheers

Turbo's failing is not common but not unheard of. To eliminate that potential issue map out the Egr's. They are the main culprit for lunching turbo's on a l322. Turbo failure is more common on the RR sport though.
Get the diagnostic codes read to get to the cause of the restricted performance issue. Don't give up and it will reward you.

I feel your pain. A year ago I bought a 2012 MY 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - one owner, service history and low mileage. Previous to that I have run about 4 Land Cruisers ( among a lot of Defenders, Discoverys, Shoguns,Touregs etc)- the last a 4.2 diesel Amazon. I have had more problems with the Range Rover than all of the Land Cruisers put together - as a matter of fact I cannot recall a problem with any of them. Best advice I can give is get the best warranty you can afford - and stick with it (the RR that is). I have wanted a Range Rover for about 35 years and now ,finally, have one - which I love. My local independent has been great in helping me sort out the problems (BLRC, Saintfield). I actually think some of my problems are self inflicted - I have a timber framing business and frequently tow 3.5 tonnes with a tri axel Ifor Williams trailer - the Range Rover is not as sturdy as the Amazon but it was bought to do a job! So keep the faith - the Range Rover is an incredible vehicle!!

Yes I took them off and gave them a thorough examination. No splits anywhere.
I think my big fear is the fault being one of several possilities, the worst being a turbo on its way out. Having said that, it pulls like a train and there is no smoke whatsoever. In fact I took a mate out in it who also has a TDV8 and he thinks it's been remapped.
I have the IID BT tool and have posted the fault on another post of mine.

The whoop whoop could be a wheel baring.

I did think that but the noise seems too far apart to point to a wheel bearing. More in time with the circumference of the wheel if that makes sense.

Last year I replaced 4 tyres with 5 mm on them because my indy told me they where flattened ( same whoop whoop noice). The new ones made the same noice turned out to be the 2 rear wheel barings. Replace the wheel that seem to make the noice with the spare and see if it still makes the noice. (Or better let the garage change them, they are to freaking heavy)

This sounds like it's coming from the front although it could be the sound travelling along the body of the car.

I've only checked the top hoses as I was led to believe they were the main problem. So there are more?

As you say, normally the top ones but the others have been known to cause problems. John

Hi Andy, I am the owner of a brand new 2019 RR SDV8 ATB. 8 weeks into ownership I had the "OK to Drive with Caution. Restricted performance". Resulting in just 4 cylinders firing in limp home mode, couldn't get the revs more than 1100 and its now with the Dealership. The report yesterday was that it had a "myriad of fault codes currently being analysed by the Master Tech. They over nighted a part (The MAF Sensor) to start off the process of elimination !! It could also be (they say) the EGR playing up as "it usually does", then again it may be a (not so simple) software update as "these are very complex beasts you know" and the "myriad" (there's that word again) of sensors often become over sensitive ... Lets see ...

So, 8.5 weeks of ownership. Brand New 2019 Model. This is my 5th visit to the dealership.

Week 1 - Critical Battery Warning. Land Rover Assist attended. Nothing that could be done roadside. Took it i. Required a software update.
Week 3 - the self close doors would not self close. Service dept found both front door cards deformed fouling with the sides of the dash. Tow new door cards replace @ (wait for it) their cost of $3500 AUD per card.
Week 3 - The rear tailgate spoiler misaligned. Not picked up in the PDI. Spoiler fouled with gloss black D Pillars. Both D Pillars replaced.
Week 5 - Safety Recall N277 - Indicator lights may not actually light up even though green arrows inside the dash light up. Software Update needed.
Week 8 - Lost power in the middle lane of a motorway at 110 Km/h "Restricted Performance" Red Warning Triangle. Occurs at Random in other driving conditions. Its now in with the Service Department.

$272,930 AUD !! And yet, when it behaves, its a wonderful, luxurious and refined / powerful ride...

Will I keep it ? Should I keep it ? is there any other SUV format that comes close (PS: My Land Cruiser owner friends are having a field day with me at work and on weekends)...

They just get in their beasts and drive off road every weekend while I look at my polished beautiful thing in the garage, take it down to a shopping mall as I am too scared to take into a grass paddock in case it itself and I have to suffer the embarrassment (again) of receiving youtube videos of their "machines"crawling over rocks and Australian outback gullies and the like ... whilst my black beauty is on a tow truck again.

I could've got two and a half new Land Cruisers for my capital outlay....

It would be remiss of me not to confirm - the dealership have been great. The service department, dealer principal and salesman have all bent over backwards to help. They cannot believe how disappointing a product this has been and off record confirmed that the dealer network have strongly complained to the new MD in the UK about the product malfunctions and bad quality. I understand the Chinese Market has now taken an absolute dive (previously thought primarily due to economic matters like currency exchange rates etc, but now confirmed to be due to product quality issues.
