Use the best synthetic oil and filter available, change the oil and filter when it appears to deteriorate, not by mileage. Use a EGR System cleaner like Revive every 80,000km I now also use a de-carboniser additive in our diesel fuels, wife has a TDI Skoda VSR. Different driver styles and trip types have a big influence on the engine oils.Short trips will have a big effect on oil life, especially if full operating temperatures are not reached.

Good advice Laurie, but will this have any impact , that is the EGR cleaner, if it has not been used so far on a 100K + motor? If the EGR's are likely to already be quite carbonised, will a cleaner cause more harm than good ? .

Thanks Laurie. I should have mentioned both egr valves were replaced with new ( I have the garage receipt , Land Rover Indy specialist )some 4 months before I bought it, so I’m hoping the turbos were ok before the old valves went west! I also have a stamped up service book, which appears to show a full service history. These cars get me,we drive em with clenched buttocks, bated breath in a cold sweat ...awaiting the...next thing! ££££... 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

Personally I believe that it could only benefit the engine if done correctly and the other minor maintenance carried out eg lubricate actuators etc. Below are comments I posted on the AURLO site in regards to the turbo's.

I am coming to the conclusion that, given we have +100K mileage cars, the best thing to do is:

I also use revive. I think it help the intake system. It might help remove those deposits on turbo fan blades and reduce the risk of an imbalanced CHRA. Induction cleaner leaves the hot turbo pretty much as steam and flows through the intercooler intake pipes and manifold, inside the head and combustion chamber, through the exhaust side of the turbo, a small amount through the EGRs but most out the exhaust. Taking soot and grime out of the engine.
