Worst Day Ever

First day back at office:
Heating broken, so 3C outside and 3C inside.
All the office plants dead from freezing over the winter.
Water was off to prevent pipes bursting.
When the water went on the pipes above our server room burst.
I got soaked in this freezing cold water as I had to shut down the servers. Nicely earthed standing in a pool of water.
Water sprayed into the light fittings in the warehouse which promptly caught fire (luckily just the lights)
Because the fire alarm had been tripped the warehouse roller door closed and wouldnt lift again because no one knows how to re-set it!
Then because it was so cold people plugged in fan heaters which burt out one of the Phases (!) loosing power to all sockets.
Our new database server wasnt on the UPS yet so had an ungracefull shutdown and lost connection to our online ordering.

So a busy first day back in the new year!

Second worst day ever:

Our industrial estate has had no power from 10AM. Of course we have a 300Amp backup generator, but this is only any good if it works, and it seems to have developed a fault with its change-over circuit. This meant we lost power across the site 4 times today, the first two times or new database server turned off instantly due to a problems with the UPS. The third time the UPS for the data switches crapped out and corrupted some data.

Add to that our exchange (standard) store has reached its 75GB limit and buying enterprise is not an option so I'm constantly fighting a failing exchange server.

At least we didn't have a flood like last month, but if the first day of the month is going to be like this throughout the year I need a new job.

Oh and I found this under someones desk - the owners dog likes chewing cables (when it's not sh!tting all over the carpet), how it's still alive I don't know!

Dan, the plugs look dusty mate, don't you have a cleaner... Laughing Laughing

Just put limits on the users mailbox's mate, they will have to archive then tomorrow and you can do a offline defrag at night and get free space back..... simple. Thumbs Up

I thought my day was bad getting pick pocketed.... the bastards had my wallet...

We have someone that comes round twice a week to push the dirt around if that's what you call a cleaner!?

Mailbox limits don't work, it's the directors/owners/family members who are the worst offenders with their 8GB mailboxes and if you try and impose limits they just storm in with their "don't you know who I am" attitude. Then if they don't get their own way they go running to daddy, which results in them getting their own way.

It's all a pile of Censored tbh!

EDIT: REALLY!? Since when was that a swear word! Shocked

I would go straight to daddy first Laughing and tell him it has to happen otherwise the e-mail system will go down...

Print a list of the worst offenders and show him that...

I've had the same problem where I work & the same sort of owner problems.

To be honest I got round it by getting everyone else to archive their emails, so the owners could have as big a mail box as they wanted.

I then when I had the opportunity of a computer problem on their laptop's set up autoarchiving on their mailboxes so to be honest they do not really realise its actually happened.

I've worked for the same owners for 18 years and sometimes they can seriously stretch your good nature !

Good luck. Paul

Plenty actually Fox! Oddly enough we keep interviewing people but they always turn the jobs down! Recession? What Recession?
