Tyre sawtoothing

Hi all

I am experiencing excessive tyre noise and when investigated can see both front tyres have sawtooth edging after only 3000 Miles

Front nearside very bad. Can actually see bits of tyre being distorted. .

Now these tyres were brand new, fitted to brand new 22 turbine wheels proceeded by two wheel alignment checks at two different establishments the second of which confirmed all to be in spec except for a small front adjustment which could of been machine related.

Car drives well. No balancing issues. Just noise on approx 80% of road surfaces and some times much quieter on others hence I am not looking for something mechanical and suggest this is tyre related.

Interestingly I also had this issue on the previous set of tyres fitted to the car. Both are contintental tyres however not specific LR endorsed tyres or the premium silent version. However based on the sawtoothing I don’t think a piece of sound deadening in the tyre would solve the noise.

Therefore anyone advise me what mechanic parts to check which may be causing the sawtoothing which would not show up in an alignment check ?

I assume something must be bent to cause this level of issue ? 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

Did you have it 4 wheel aligned on a Hunter system? They tend to be the most accurate by far

Are you sure it's not your driving ?

You could try going around corners a little slower Whistle

Nearside implies you go round a lot of roundabouts......

The 20" Conti's on the L322 were notorious for outer edge wear - but the 22's on the L405 don't seem to suffer. I don't have any experience of the 22's on the L322 though.

Have you had other tyres that fare better ?

Hi. Yes to Hunter. We even learnt how to put the car into tight tolerance mode via the brake pedal.

Re traffic islands. My understanding is that if we were to corner too quickly this actually helps with sawtoothing as this smooths the wear off the tyre. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

Thanks for the input. I have considered (improper inflation, excessive toe-in, low-wear applications and taking into account that I check the pressures and have had the car aligned I am resorting to think it is the kind of tyre combined with lots of moderate style driving however the near side is so acute and as it occurred on the previous set partly owned by the previous owner I hoped there was something else I could check ? Anyone else on 22 continental combination experiencing similar ? 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream
