Will the airbag deploy?

I noticed that the light for the seatbelt does not come on when someone is using the passenger seat.It works correctly for the driver's side.
My main concerne is will the airbag deploy in the event of a accident with the safetybelt in use? Will it know there is someone using the passenger seat in the event of a accident??How does this system works?
I am aware that on some vehicles the airbag will not deploy if the safetybelt is not being used!!
Advice please!! 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

From the earlier cars workshop manual it appears that both the passenger seat seat belt pretensioner and airbag will default to operate and deploy in the event of the passenger seat belt indication not working. Although a fault will be logged in the DCU provided the SRS warning light is not lit everything will work.
I would assume the operation is the same for later cars but it would be worth checking to be sure.

From the Workshop Manual 2002-2006

The driver and passenger airbags are fired in a frontal impact. The time delay between firing the two gas generators in each airbag decreases with the increasing severity of the impact, until, at the most severe impact limit (driver and passenger airbag 4), the gas generators are fired simultaneously. In a frontal impact, the DCU only fires the driver and passenger airbags if the safing sensor has closed, and also evaluates the inputs from the seat belt switches and the seat occupancy module before it comes to a firing decision.

If there is a fault with a seat belt switch input, the DCU assumes the seat belt is fastened for the pretensioner firing strategy and unfastened for the airbag firing strategy. If there is a fault with the occupancy detection sensor, the DCU assumes the front passenger seat is occupied.

Thanks for the reply!!No faults logged.
I checked the WM for my car but could find no reference to the working of the safetybelt or SRS system.Under what section of your WM did you find the reference!

There is a passenger seat sensor sandwiched between the lower seat foam which tells the car if there is someone in the seat or not.
