When you get the V750, you have to send it off with your V5c and I think a copy of the tax disc.
The V750 is just your entitlement to the reg number. It's still not assigned to a vehicle.

After you send off your stuff, a week or two later you get a new V5c with the new reg number shown, a new tax disc with the new reg number and you send the old tax disc back to them afterwards. You should also (I think) get a certificate allowing you to go and buy registration plates, although you can use the V5c to do that.

I always go into a local DVLA office and do it there and then to save any postal cock ups.

When I bought the TDV8 the dealer sent it off. What a disaster. Three weeks to wait, the other guys private reg number came back to me, with all my details on it and none of his etc... Rolling Eyes

Just sent our Lagunas docs off this morning for a Transfer to the Freelander. £80 , I'll post back with the timeleines as it progresses. The V5 will take a while but they do send a letter authorising the production of the plates for the car prior to the V5 getting processed. Hope they don't cock it up. Never had any major issues, just the odd delay using dealers.. much simpler to retain if you go the dealers route. I've been swapping plates for 22 years... slows down the rate at which I swap cars mind.. which isn't a bad thing.. it may cost £80 or £130 for retention but I'd have lost way more on depreciation on cars I "just must have it now" kind of thing if you see what I mean.

I dropped on as my Folks bought a car with a plate having three numbers then three letters which just happened to spell my name.. how lucky is that! Fortunate the parents called me XTU I guess Laughing

I bought the Mrs her plates, they have a character then number, then her initials. Gave them to her wrapped up for her birthday several years back, she thought I'd bought her an old nacker of a car Very Happy took a while for the penny to drop.. then it was OMG Exclamation O M G Cool 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

The only problem is, you sometimes get a bit too enthusiastic and pick up plates that are dateless. I have two for Defenders, TOP 90 and TAZ 90 that I used to have on challenge trucks and a 110 plate too. 110 and then three letters. All dateless and all on retention.

Plus I've got BO55FOX on retention now as well. Rolling Eyes
So I've got more plates than cars.

And I can't put any of them on my two hobby cars because the Camel has it's original Birmingham LR factory plate which is part of it's ID/heritage and the Morris Minor has it's original dateless plate already that it's had from new.

Sent off transfer forms last Monday to transfer my dads personal reg onto my new FFRR. It's his initials followed by 2 numbers and letter so dateless and should look nice. The best thing about it is his initials are the same as my 2 year old son. My dad said he was going to give it to him when he gets his 1st car anyway. I'll let you know when we hear back to give an idea of waiting time. FFRR TD6 HSE

Hair Dryer to heat it up (not too close) and then it should pull off without damage - may need a thin blunt tool to get under the edge.
