I regularly reset adaptations on my 3.0 D4's 6-speed to get the same effect so might try it on the 8-speed. I don't mind the box holding gears because I simply use the paddles but the TC slip coupled with slow acceleration especially trying to jump into traffic from a stand-still can be unsettling.

Try this. It's taken from a BMW forum but the ZF reset is pretty much the same for all models.
My old 535d had the same procedure.
