My 2010 3.6 tdv8 has covered 64000 miles and has been used very much as a ‘Chelsea Tractor’ by its previous owners since new. I do a lot of short (2 miles or less) journeys Monday to Friday. How often should I take it for a 50mph + run and for how long to keep the DPF functioning properly?

just run as you do now....if and when the yellow dpf warning comes up then run it at 50mph for about 10-20 minutes to clear it..

i to use mine for mainly short journeys and its only come up once about a year ago... ... - .- -.

I got the yellow warning last October. Once the engine was warm, I used a little more right foot for acceleration while keeping it in lower gears (in the lakes at the time) for around 10-15 mins, that cleared it for me, just needs to get hot.

tI found in my freelander than ragging the nuts off the engine to clear the DPF was a waste of time. As mentioned above, driving normally between 50 and 70-mph seemed to be far more effective at clearing it.

I think its to do with a cruising speeds and normal engine revs, there is more overhead in the exhaust system to allow it to dump fuel down and burn out the DPF to clear it. Ragging it reduces that overhead. V8 or else ...

The dreaded warning came on for the first time in my ownership.....
After initail stress.... took it for a run the long way home on our ring road - we dont actually have a motorway here yet. Luckily on first section the police were on the other direction - so wound her up to a steady 60-70mph and by the 15 km at t'other end , with a few slows for roundabout, the warning ! disappeared.
Luckily heading to Serbia on Friday - for Serb/Russian Mew Year and my Grandaughters 2nd bday.... so this should a give run to clear out properly. Series 2a LWB Hardtop - ex British Aerospace that was then used in an armed robbery! not by me!

Is DPF regeneration silent ?

if it does make a sound you wouldnt hear it over the engine/road noise.... ... - .- -.

I didn't think the TDV8 3.6 had a DPF, I thought it was only introduced in the 4.4?
