I did do a lot of research about the Smith & Allen fluid on Jaguar and Ford forums (to name but a few!) before I decided to use their product.

I was very happy with the performance of the gearbox before the fluid change - gear changes were always pretty smooth but seem even smoother now (which no doubt is a bit of feel good factor from actually changing the fluid/filter). I was also just happy that I was able to change pretty much all of the fluid (gearbox and torque converter) with the correct spec fluid, and at a reasonable price.

At the end of the day, if it is going to give you sleepless nights that you might be killing your gearbox then I would just bite the bullet and buy the properly branded Lifeguard 6 and be done with it.

Had an apple pie made for "Polly", she got 81 today, the smallest of the collection with the loudest roar. We had coffee and pie in the garage along side her. Me crazy..? absolutely.

I sent an email to Ravenol asking about their gearbox fluid. Here is their answer:
"RAVENOL ATF 8HP Fluid has been developed for the latest ZF 8HP-Series transmissions - ZF 8HP45, 8HP55, 6HP26, 8HP70, 8HP90. It meats all the requirements of Lifeguard 8 and is also coloured green. It is fast becoming one of our best selling ATF Fluids which we supply regularly to companies such as Britpart, Bristol Transmissions, etc."

Seems to me that if you're thinking of changing your ZF 'box fluid, you might want to look at their UK online shop - I don't work for them by the way!!

I wonder what the likes of RR Phil, or Cam Tech Craig think?

Interesting reply beancounter. Living in france makes buying 8 ltr of oil in the uk not that worthwhile I think.
