Front shocks without new air bags

I'm fairly sure my shock/struts are done. My air bags look fine. I find replacement front air bags without the shock but having trouble finding just the shocks listed. Am I missing something? Isn't it possible to replace just the shock part of the strut? If anyone has a part number that would be great.

They are readily available on Ebay in Australia so would have thought even easier to find in the US. Its a shame you aren't closer as I have a good pair, to good to throw but no use to me.

To be honest, it is just not worth the effort imho. Replace the whole thing bag and strut together. .

Thanks folks. I was told that the bags were replaced about 50k miles ago and what I can see of them they look great. But it depends on the cost of the strut alone vs the whole thing.

I agree with Joe. Just replace the whole thing. More hassle than its worth I would say to split the units and trying to find non-bagged struts.

Also, to an extent, I view the bags the same as tyres ... they essentially are rubber and hold the same weight as the tyre beneath them. They go through similar repeated movements as the tyre as well. If anything, they go through a larger flex movement as they fold round and up against the strut when moving up and down

If strolled up to you with a set of tyres and said they had done 50k miles ... what would your initial reaction be? Would you think " they look great " ... or would you think ... "at 50k miles, they are going to be a bit tired " ( I would think the latter personally ) V8 or else ...

Anyone have experience with aftermarket strut assemblies? I best start shopping now. If the shock part is dead can't be long before the bag gets dried out.
