So I just bought a 58 reg TDV8 this afternoon. Test drive went fine. Everything worked (aside from the rear camera, which he had already told me about).

Fast forward to driving it home and 40 miles later I have the following :

HDC Fault
Parking Brake Fault
Terrain Response Fault

Fault Codes:
U0248 - lost comms with remote driver utility module
U0416 - invalid data from vehicle dynamics module
U0401 - invalid data from engine control module
U0402 - invalid data from transmission control module
U0403 - invalid data from transmission case module
U0421 - invalid data from ride level control module
U0122 - invalid data from vehicle dynamics control module
P0500 - vehicle speed sensor A
C1A93 - Right rear wheel speed sensor

So... I'm thinking it can't all be that bad and either a cable has come off or a sensor/switch/relay somewhere has failed.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to have hidden all of this, particularly as I used a fault code reader before and after the test drive and there was nothing untoward.

All the faults except the wheel speed sensor fault will have been triggered by the wheel speed sensor fault due to the reliance on accurate wheel speeds by all the various modules.

So U faults are caused by P and C faults

I'll bear that in mind.

£20 for a bosch rear speed sensor.... picking up tomorrow. Current cars:

Sure it will be. However, it reset last night and had no troubles at all on a 100mile journey I just did.

Picked up a new sensor though and will change it out to be sure. Current cars:

Doesn't sound too serious Keith, hopefully the sensor should resolve the issue and won't sour the start of your RR experience!

The "U" faults are communication errors and can be ignored if there are no other faults. From the manual:

"If faults with a “lost communication with ...” definition are still present and that there are no other
symptoms observed, they can be ignored. These faults are recorded from time to time for no apparent
reason. If faults with the U prefix and unrelated to a communication error are, simply correct the issues
and use the clear fault function"

So it appears that the only fault to be concerned with is the sensor ones, which you have in hand. You could retain the sensor until (if) they reappear. John

Fault came back, so changed the right rear abs cable and the fault still persists

I need to try and check the wiring before the cable, but any other ideas?

Also on both rear wheels there is a connector not connected to anything. What's it for?

Just guessing that the connectors may be for TPMS receivers.

Can you get light into the sensor hole to check for contamination/rubbish?

I had a good look down the sensor hole when I changed it. All looked good and clean. Current cars:

D2s get ABS faults when grease escaped from a failing bearing fills the gaps in the sensor ring, but the sensors usually have grease on them too.

Perhaps chaffed wiring somewhere but an oscilloscope may be required to check for the signal at various points unless you can see a worn or broken spot. A broken wire at the 1st connector perhaps?

Do you get the same DTC when the sensor is disconnected?

Had it on a proper diagnosis machine today. It's getting no reading at all from the right rear wheel. The new sensor might be a dud, so need to transpose one. More than likely a fault wire/connector from the car end though I'd think now. Could be fun finding where the issue is exactly.

Booked in with County Rovers in Chard this Friday for them to have a look at. I'll get the lube out. Current cars:

Make sure you have fitted the correct replacement sensor , there are a few with different resistances so the abs module doesn't recognise the 'wrong' one and throws out that error. Ask me how I know

Did you end up buying the £100 land rover one or can you recommend a source?

Got one from ECP and it was completely the wrong connector at both ends.

Then got a pattern one from eBay (done this before for other cars without issue) but it hasn't cured the issue. Current cars:
