I have been trying to track down an issue with HDC and inactive suspension faults, I think it is originating from the left rear wheel.

Yesterday I reversed out from a car park and there was a very loud noise, almost like a bang, grinding noise, I then had no acceleration, it was like the brakes were locking on and preventing me driving over 5 kph. There seemed to be a thumping noise coming from the REAR left wheel. UI had a friend follow on foot and he confirmed the noise was from the left rear wheel

This later cleared and I was able to drive it home at normal speed. I removed the rear wheel today and it was hard to get off the studs, it seemed to be seized, a bit of banging released it.

I removed the brake caliper and disc, The hand brake shoes has a few cracks going through them, These will need replacing, but I don't think it was a hand brake shoe stuck and binding that caused the problem.
I re assembled every thing, and replaced the Rear left hand wheel ABS sensor. .
I then reset all fault codes and went for a test drive. immediately the suspension & HDC warning lights csme up, The speedo was also now showing I was traveling at 160kph when I was traveling at approx 60kph.

So I'm starting to lean to the cause of my ongoing problem is coming from the left rear wheel.
I had a look in micorcat at what parts are in the hub.
I see there is a Knuckle in which the wheel sensor is inserted, a bearing, a circlip and the hub.

Question I have is where does the sensor get it's pick up from, there does not appear to be any reluctor to pick up a signal. I googled pics of the hub and there doesn't appear to be a reluctor on it? , the Knuckle just appears to have a bearing inside, so I am lost.
I feel I will have to pull the hub off and investigate further.

There should be a reluctor ring. Mine rusted through and I had to buy a new drive shaft. I then found out that one from an X5 should fit. Think you can get them on eBay or the like.....if that's what you find it is. The speedo is fed from the rear left wheel, as you prob know.

Thanks, now I know where the reluctor ring must be, I will swap the sensor again to see if the new sensor is not the problem before I start the major strip down.

update, the rear speed error is being caused by wrong sensor supplied, it should be SSF000021 and was supplied SSF500021 which is the from 06 models.
