for me yes, the bigger exterior mirrors , the 8 speed box , led lights etc all came into the 'i like it better' equation.. ... - .- -.

Again, mixed views for me on the TFT. Definitely looks more modern and it will be neat to have easy access to a KMH clock when I take it to Europe. But there's actually less info available to you at any one time. There's no longer the simple info button on the central display. On the dash you can have clock and miles or trip A or trip B or MPG or Range to empty or whatever.... but not a combination (and its actually a bit laborious to swap from Trip A to B just to look at it). Whereas on the old dash you got most of it up as standard and the rest on the central display at the same time if you wanted such info instead of Nav or whatever. That's just not an option on my 2012 which is a shame as I would choose to look at Miles, Trip, Avg MPG and Range to empty if it was available on one screen. Mike - MPx

Just to let you know Mike your old 2007 4.2 is currently on Skye after a week of navigation the very north of Scotland.

About to tick 123k and roaring along perfectly. She's surprised a few dawdling locals/petrified tourists.

As mentioned buy on condition not mileage, when I bought MPx's I was looking at anything from 80-150k vehicles and ironically the lower mileage cars had more problems/missing history/ descrepencies in history etc. 2005 E60 M5

Good to read Chris - and indeed in other threads about how well you're looking after the old chap - glad its still doing the business. Had my 4.2 for over a year now. From 40k to 58k.

Had to consider mine over a high mile facelift, but ultimately went pre-facelift, low miles.
Mine is 07MY so has the slight facelift inside. You can always tell because the ignition is on the dash not by the gear selector, and of course a heap of other upgrades. Mines black with ivory guts. Its really an occasion when driving it. Feels like a 60k motor easily.
The power is great. It's quick in a straight line and sounds great (especially if you have the resonators cut out of the exhaust system). The engine is silky smooth and actually pretty quiet most of the time.

Could not recommend the car enough if I'm honest. I paid slightly over the odds for mine for its age. It was perfect condition with just shy of 40k on it. Full main dealer history, one owner etc. It was worth the extra personally and I've no buyers remorse.

As with everything, buy on condition and gut feeling Thumbs Up Jordan

If I was to buy on condition I think I'll be looking at a low mileage 4.2. The 5.0s in my range really do seem to be the cheapest of that model going. Not sure I'd be comfortable with that, could end up with a pig of a motor. On paper I've had cars quicker than the 4.2 but they've all been saloons with turbos. How does the power of the 4.2 feel? Plenty of torque? Exhilarating? Obviously compared to the 5.0 it's not as fast but and ultimately I'll have to test drive one, just wondering how people would describe it. I had a 2015 C250 merc lease car which was 0-60 in 6 but it delivered the power in a way that felt utterly boring!

the 4.2 is a great choice, might be slightly slower on paper than the 5.0 but in real day terms it doesn't matter...i miss mine as it was so smooth and quiet but i was in a position where i could afford the tdv8 tractor so i went for it..

get one Tom , you won't regret it.... Thumbs Up ... - .- -.

I think that's what I'll do unless an amazing cheap 5.0 shows up. Ultimately I'm after a fatty with a supercharged v8 and either will feel like a rocket compared to the 2.7 RRS.

I have that in my disco, so underpowered it's not funny. To call the sport a sport when fitted with an underpowered blender motor made by psa is 😂 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yeah it is pretty pathetic. Once it starts moving it's fine up to 40 then very sluggish. Overtaking uphill is almost embarrassing. I've been sat behind lorries at 40mph uphill on the a34 waiting for a half mile gap to pull out far too many times now. On the plus side it is very comfortable.

Well you wont have that issue in a 4.2. It obviously does kickdown etc as normal, but I found it even more fun to flip the lever over to sport and nudge it down a couple of gears before cracking it open. Very rapid acceleration up or down hill doing that - overtaking is not an issue at all. The 5.0 is quicker, and I like using the flappy things to drop the gears rather than the lever but the 4.2 was more than adequate. You should find it more fun than a laggy turbo saloon, but its no sports car so get it done on the straights and wind your neck back in before the next bends.... Mike - MPx

More good info thanks Smile fine by me, I'm not a fast driver and all my miles are generally motorway cruising or A-roads so I'm just after straight line power. Sounds like I'll be happy with a 4.2 if that's what's available.
